Fantastic, fantastic news that Darcy Hordichuk is back in Edmonton. Embraces the role, doesn't ***** and is phenomenal in the room.

Hordichuk isn't a nuclear deterrent, but he's mighty willing and skates well enough to get after better players. And, again, doesn't *****.

Anyone complaining about Hordichuk signing has no concept of how important positive energy is around the team.

Remember when RNH was hurt last year? Hordichuk spent a TON of time with him skating, keeping his spirits up, keeping it light etc.

Hordichuk back, seeks green light: "It's not a bad thing to get suspended every once in a while to show people you're a little bit crazy.

Hordichuk tells me he's had great conversations with Ralph Krueger, expects to be given the green light to mix it up a bit more this season
$850k is a lot of cash for a cheerleader. That's almost hockey player money.

Glad to have him back. The guy actually knows his role and loves his role.

As long as Krueger unlike Renney actually plays him and lets him do his job, he will good for this team.

I think Hordi was put on too much of a leash under renney, and that made him basically useless.

We'll see though...825K is a drop in the bucket for this team and won't make or break the year.

If the plan is to let him Hordichuk run around and do his thing it's a good signing. He can be effective when he's allowed to make opposing players uncomfortable because they don't know what he's going to do. With a softer than average team it'll help to have a guy that makes players think twice about running our guys because they're worried Hordichuk might do something to their skilled guys. If Krueger gives him the chance to do that he'll be more consistently effective than this past year.

Another serious reason why Renney had to go.
His decisions not to play these pest/tough guys was absurd

renney was a candyass he made our tougher guys ineffective, and our skilled players targets.

if Kreuger uses them effectively a lot of people will change their ideas about Crazy-Eyes and Eggs

I like this. From what i know he's a positive influence in the room and a class guy.

Just be glad we didn't get big George back after his big interview. Maybe Kazt dosen't make all the decisions.

Tootoo ?! I'd rather have Desmond Tutu.

I hate to break it to you guys, but Hordichuk was used the same as he was in FLO and in VAN. Not sure what you expect out of tough guys, but they aren't out there 10 minutes a night.

He will be fine, and we needed the physicallity. Guy is a hitting machine if you compare the ice time to hits. 67 hits in 43 games, with only around 4 min per night.

I always thought that it would be great to add a tough B6 guy like Martin to address the physicallity issue. Matt Martin lead the league in hits last year. If hordichuk played 12 min a night like Martin did (ouch), hitting at the same rate, he would have been #1 in the league in hits (approx 400).

Its just a basic comparison, but that kind of makes me think that Matt Martin is alot less impressive than he seems. 4th liner with 3rd liner ice time?

Maybe they brought MacT back to be the hand he has tied behind his back. Was OK with this signing to start with...liking it more after reading this thread.

4:21/game. Because he can't play a regular shift. The guy is a total non-factor. Not a very good fighter either. Are people looking forward to seeing him get ragdolled by the legit toughs like Matt Kassian several times again this year? If he's so good in the dressing room, sign him to the training staff.

Blech. Waste of a roster spot.

I don't care if he gets any more ice time. I care that Renney stapled him and Eager to the bench when they were actually needed on the ice.

Yes, I don't remember if Hordichuk or Eager were even dressed in the Philly game, but there is something wrong when no one stands up for MPS after he gets a blatant knee.

Stauffer's interview with Hordi today is must listen radio. He implies (without trying to criticize Renney too much) about how he's looking forward to "doing the job that he loves" now that Krueger is coach. Other highlights:

-- He's still planning on settling the score against Dorsett
-- mentioned how the one game he missed (his wife was having a baby) against Calgary was the one Sarich went after Hall. Hordi's got payback in mind!
-- Bob mentioned Glencross trying to start a fight with Nuge. Hordi didn't know that, now he wants Glencross too! He said, "If you let him do that once, he'll think he can get away with all the time. My kid is the same way. Now I have to treat Glencross like a 3 year old!"

I think the trickle down effect should help out Hordichuk's chances at more minutes too.

The more top-end talent we add, the better our depth gets. The better Hordichuk's linemates, the more minutes he could get.

I would say it's safe to assume Hordi-Belanger-Jones/Eager gets more minutes than Hordi-Lander-Petrell

"I thought it was clear when we were a 29th place team, and guys, Jared Boll, were taking runs at guys," Hordichuk if he had shackles on.

It seems like our theory with Renney is probably true.

Maybe next year Hordichuk can have a staged fight against Boll three shifts after our player has already been run.

That'll show him!

Hordichuk seems to be the type of player, that if you run one of our guys, he'll go after you and pound your face in, whether your willing to fight or not.

I just listened to Hordy on Gregor.

Confirmed and undeniable.

Of interesting note was Hordy on Eager, saying he got frustrated (Eager) when he played well but wasn't acknowledged (more bad paraphrasing by me ). Hordy figures Eager ended up just not wanting to do his job for the coach at some point.

This could be a VERY interesting, and hopefully bloody and bone breaking year!

So our player is hurt AND we get to be shorthanded for five minutes? Sounds like a great way to win hockey games.
