Hey. Thought I'd visit and live vicariously through a recent Stanley cup contender. A year ago seems so far away.

Sucks, I feel like if he was patient Lou would've taken care of him in the end. Oh well, thanks Poni!

I don't see us offering more than $1.8 for him.

I'd really like to know what Lou did offer him if in fact he had every intention to bring him back.

I still say Lou offered him about 1.5 mil but he decided to go play with Antropov in Winnipeg for a bit more money.

Not giving Ponikarovsky 1.8 can only mean one thing to me.

The Devils are operating on a salary budget for the 2012-13. Parise has a frontloaded contract on the table, along with Kovy. That really handcuffs our money, so we'll be giving Poni's spot to Tedenby or another prospect.

That's exactly what it means. We're doing things on the cheap anywhere we can so that we have enough money for Parise and Kovalchuk both.

Or maybe we just didn't want to give Poni 1.8 a year.

But that was the plan at the beginning of this year too. Let some of the kids fight for a spot and if they don't perform fix the hole through trade. If the Devils are on a fiscal budget, paying only the last 3 months of someone's salary makes a difference. And again, for a third line winger I thought he did fine in the post season. I get the Devils letting him go and trying to fill it through more inexpensive youth but if the youth don't work - Lou will make a Ponikarovsky type move again. And if it is him again, so be it.

The Devils may have retained Ponikarovsky, but he didn't feel like waiting around, and I can't blame him. If he waited in line like some of the other guys are doing right now I'm sure they would have taken him back if he really wanted to play here with us. He didn't feel like waiting around, and hey that's okay, and understandable. I respect that.

Besides he's actually the first UFA I said that's most likely gone.

They most likely didn't want to pay him 1.8 Million next year when you can get Sykora for cheaper, and (I know he is currently everyone's whipping boy) Tedenby needs to get some playing time in if he is every going to break into something, and it won't be on the 4 line with all 3 locked up.

Not really worth bringing him back, maybe more if Zach left be he apparently was not willing to wait around and rightfully so in his case.

We should have brought him back and waved bye bye to Sykora. Poni is better at both ends, younger, and more reliable. Sykora probably would get 1 mil? I'd happily pay Poni 800k more. We were a better team with him on it. But whatever.
