Definitely don't like the 2.5 hit but I still like the player. It's clear someone on Chicago's blueline is headed out, my guess is, sadly, Hammer. I think we see him moved for a center.

We run...

Keith-Seabrook
Oduya-Leddy
Montador-Brookbank

Yikes at that second pairing.

Bringing in Brookbank at the expense of Hammer downgrades our D. But hey, at least Bo saved 1M in cap space!

Oduya-Leddy-Montador-Brookbank-Olsen = FIVE #5 and 6 defensemen with ridiculous cap hits.

Most likely it will be:

Keith-Seabrook
Oduya-Montador
Leddy-Brookbank

...or some variation of that, because Seabrook, Montador, and Brookbank are righthanded D-men, and Stan has said before he's interested in having left/right shooting D pairs.

So everyone *****es last year that they didn't spend to the cap, and they should've just spent on someone, anyone, just to get there.

Now they sign a guy and everyone *****es that he's making $1.25M too much. Can't have it both ways people...

Spending to the cap is stupid if you're overpaying (3) bottom pairing defensemen to get there.

Should have added that 2.5M cap hit to the Suter offer.

A $2.5 million cap hit for Sheldon Brookbank? What the hell is wrong with Bowman? That is atrocious.

Nobody said that. Stop making crap up to support your weak arguments.

EDIT: Looks like Rogers and Boden are backing the 1.25M cap hit (with actual year-by-year numbers). This goes back to being a solid signing.

His NHL salary the last 4 years was $2.5 million total (500/500/700/800). So, if you average over that time, he just quadrupled it. He must have a great agent.

Plenty said exactly "If Stan cleared all that cap space he should have used it"

Right - which is quite different from what IU Hawks fan claimed... Nobody said to use it on overpaid garbage.

Now that we know Brookbank's deal is 1.25mil a year. If we sign Suter, do you think we still trade Hammer for a second line center like Dubinsky?

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
For those asking, I was told Sheldon Brookbank's deal in CHI is 2 years at $1.25M per year.

I hope to Stan Mikita that Bob McKenzie is right. 2.5m/yr is simply ridiculous. TSN's page still shows 2.5m/yr, though: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=25880

Jul 1 Brookbank, Sheldon D Anaheim Chicago $5M 2 $2.5M

If the Blackhawks would simply say how much the contract is worth (like a lot of other teams do) I could be at ease.
