Mac can go to make room for Kadri
Lambo and Connolly need to go
And we badly need a Bozak upgrade.

Our current line-up

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JVR-Grabo-Kulemin(rfa)
Mac-McClement-Frattin
Lombardi-Steckel-Brown
Extra- Connolly(not really sure where he'll fit in with this line-up, besides he's made of cotton candy so he'll likely be watching from a hispital room when he's out with a hang nail)

Gunnar-Phanuef
Gardiner-Franson(rfa)
JML-Komisarek

Reimer

So we still need a goalie, and hopefully we get another defender to knock Komisarek to the press box.
That roster actually looks solid. If Kulemin finds his stride again our wingers look solid. I wonder where Kadri fits in though?

Yeah, it's definitely going to be a heated negotiation...the last two years have been opposite ends of the spectrum for Kulemin. Hopefully they can agree to a short-term contract paying him somewhere in the middle.

Good value. 20 goals is a real possibility for him next season.

I could see him if he can recover from the injury he suffered in the playoffs. All depends on how well he recovers and if he has enough time to train properly.

I sure hope he comes back he is one of our better two way forwards and like I have preached in the past the guy lost a lot of good friends in a plane crash this year so give the man a break.

Kule is one of our best 2 way forwards and he has shown he is capable of 25 or even 30 goals. Hope we get him signed so he can bounce back this year. As for Frattin, good signing but IMO he is not a top 6 player, 3rd line winger with an offensive upside but we have not seen enough to say he will crack the top 6, also I believe if there is a spot to be had in the top 6 Kadri will win it, awesome offensive skills and plays a physical game, he could maybe fit into a marchand type of role except much more offensive potential with less *************.

Leafs' Burke says during AHL playoffs Frattin's play reminded him of Dustin Brown

High praise! However it was true..he just did everything.

Gysbers will probably be back as he's an RFA.

Thank god we got rid of finger. What's the deal with Kulemin? He's a restricted free agen, but I'm not familiar with those, so what's the "restriction" with him?

He's restricted in the sense that we can re-sign him and hold his rights. Another team can sign him if they want but we get the right to match it if we want, and if we don't we get draft pick(s) from ottawa as compensation.

example Ottawa signs him for $3 million dollars. Burke can either

A) Decide to match it, done deal Kulemin is a Leaf for $3 million
B) decline it, Kulemin is now a Senator for $3 Million but we'd get Ottawa's next 2nd round pick in exchange

the quality and quantity of the draft picks goes up with the dollars. The maximum is 4 1st round picks for $7.8 million dollars or higher

Most likely outcome..

We simply canot afford to have Kulemin play the way he did last year. The most likely scenario is him and Kadri in a package for a number 1 or number 2 center such as Statsny/Duschene.I'm sorry but if Kulemin plays like that again,Burke will be well.....

Great cheap signing by Burke on Frattin.

But the reality is he muffed up contracts of Komisarek, Connolly and the buy out of Colby that good player like Frattin apparently need to take the responsibilty and less money for Burke's other contract mistakes.

Frattin plays a gritty enough game to play on our third line this season. It will be interesting to see if he outplays Kadri in training camp or not. He certainly played lights out before the injury.

I'd say Komi's is the only one Burke really screwed up on. He was hoping Komi would regain his all-star form, he gambled wrong. Colby's buyout is okay for this season, since Montreal signed him. Connolly's contract was actually pretty good. Nobody better was available, and the Leafs had some extra cap space. We knew it was a gamble given his history, but it's only a 2 year contract. If he's still bad after this season, then he's gone, no worries. If he steps it up, and gets 50-60 pts., then that's a damn good deal for someone only making $4.75mil.

If this team is still absolute crap after this season, lots of players are coming off the books, which makes for plenty of room to sign some pricey players.

I agreed on Connolly until I saw what NYI signed Boyes for today - another ineffective and underwhelming centre but for 1M over 1 year. Burke doesn't do well UFA signings - Lebda (2 year), Army, Orr, Komi, Dupuis etc. The only one that I like off the top of my head was Beauchi. Very low percentage of success by Burke with UFA.

I'm not sure why we are giving multiple years and high salary to players like Orr and Lebda when Islanders don't.
