It's fine when your starting goaltender will be making entry-level money. Hopefully, this is what happens should Marty retire 1 year in (one of the kids being ready and great).

Who knows if it's still going to be $4M per.

I get the feeling he was more concerned about the 2 years than the money.

Perhaps he is willing to take a little less money for the extra year.

I'm not going to lie, I did have mixed feelings hearing this news precisely because I figured Marty waiting was tied into Parise, and that Marty getting a huge gold watch was a sign Zach wasn't coming back. Oh well, at least they're rewarding the guy who wants to stay.

Zidlicky, Elias, Zubrus will either be gone, retired, or be taking slight paycuts
Tedenby and Josefson are TBA based on this coming season
Zajac stays(Please no Parise hottest UFA of 2013 crap), Zubrus may or may not be retained. Zidlicky probably won't be re signed. Clarkson I wanna keep, but not for something ridiculous if he don't score 30 goals again. Tedenby if he pans out give him a slight raise, but just slightly. If he sucks no raise, and hopefully he's rid of. Josefson if he has a decent year maybe close to $2 million, Henrique I wouldn't mind at $3 million if he is as good as last year, Elias I think stays, and takes no more than $4 million a year.

UFA's need an agent, it's just how it is. He might have a deal in place with said agent to make less for less footwork. You'll never know what rate the agent signed on for. I would imagine there's a certain prestige that comes along with saying "we represented Martin Brodeur".

Well look at it both ways

Maybe Zach will be more inclined to come back knowing Marty is back in net for us

I see this as Lou actually trying to keep Parise by bringing Marty back

When you're basically skirting the floor this year and are probably losing Zach on top of it, there's room.

Perhaps this is also an indication Lou made his 'final' offer to Zach, either way so now he knows what he can offer Marty/Moose and whatever happens with Zach happens.

This decision on Marty probably hinged on what happened with Parise.

Problem is it could still be an indicator for Zach staying or leaving.

We won't know until tomorrow, but Lou has a pretty good idea of what Zach's decision will be.

At this point, I don't care if Zach is back. Awesome if he is, but Marty is priority #1. He's THE man of the franchise. The guy could be in our front office in a few years. Get him in a Devil's sweater and pay him whatever.

I'm not psyched or happy about a two year deal at all for Marty. However I've been more vocal on here about wanting him back, and not wanting Zach to cost us Marty. So I'll take the compromise. Marty wouldn't do anything to hurt the team so if he wants two years I think he's planning to play two years. Plus if there is a lockout that takes out an entire season(Not too likely) That forces him into retirement then perhaps by next Summer when that CBA is signed they waive the 35+ clause, and give teams like the Devils, and the Flyers with Pronger a chance to get rid of the 35+ players contracts who wanna retire without going against the cap.

I was definitely not happy about this contract. That, and the Colin White contract I was not a fan of. Pandolfo really soured me towards the end of his tenure. He was 10 steps behind everyone else on the ice, and was like the equivalent of Marty in Calgary this past season every other game pretty much. It was like the equivalent of Marty giving up 2 or 3 softies a night. I also grew to hate the stupid ''Shutdown'' line after Carolina. That was Sutter's fault though can't blame Pandolfo.

I hope the Devils players (former and current) are reaching out to Zach. Guys like Scott Stevens, Elias, Henrique. Guilt him into staying.

I'm still really interested in Peter Mueller. He'd be the Devils standard reclamation project. Salvador came back from concussion problems, and he's a guy with legit talent. I know he's not really looked at favorably around here though

I think giving Marty an expensive two-year deal as opposed to a cheap one-year deal is more a sign of Zach leaving. But yeah I guess we'll see soon enough although now McKenzie says it won't be resolved till mid-late afternoon (with Zach).

If it was Bueller and I could yell Bueller all game I would do it in a heartbeat. And play twist and shout whenever he scored.

Why is he not looked on favorably?

I really hope this isn't what this indicates. I don't think we're out on Parise, it's just that Marty made some noise and we want to get him back.

Get Stevens, Dano, Niedermayer, hell get Claude Lemeiux, Stephane Richer, Mogilny, Randy Mckay, all those guys to call him up like they had Gretzky, and Paul Coffee do for Schultz with Edmonton.

Serious issues staying healthy the last few years. Tough to sign a check to a guy you're not even sure will be there for 20 games, but the man was 8th overall and is a great player. Just got his bell rung a few times.
