@Strung: Way, way, waaaayyy too soon, although I can only imagine what distasteful joke Steigerwald has cooked up for the first time someone dives against the Pens. The Hobey Baker comment was one of the two or three most brutal jokes I've ever heard made during a sports telecast.
In the summer you had a surgery on your shoulder. Is it healed?
Yes, completely. Now we have to bring my muscles in shape. Preseason games showed that it's difficult for me so far. I can play well the first two shifts, and then it's going downhill. You want to do twice as much to return to the same level, but the muscles have atrophied, and you realize how bad it is. You start rushing it. Plus I gained extra weight, but gradually I'll train myself for the better. Pretty soon I'll look like a hockey player.
“My only reason for going home is that I don’t want to be there,” he said. “I have told them from the beginning that I don’t want to be there. I’m not depressed or anything like that, I just don’t want to be there.”
Asked by the newspaper about this burning a bridge with the Caps as far as an NHL future, Soberg reportedly was not concerned.
”It won’t ruin anything for me,” he said. “They have told me that they don’t view me as a bad prospect if I choose to play outside of North America, but they would have preferred that I play in North America. I’m not at all ruling out that I will play over there sometime in the future, but right now I just don’t want to be there.”
