Eric Godard is still available & he played some 70 games under Therrien in Pittsburgh.

I can't believe I just posted that!!!

What heavyweights are easily obtainable that can play hockey?

There's really only a small number of heavies that can play at all--and, even then, most of them can only barely play.

It doesn't answer the question.

What, your rhetorical question?

And, in fact, it does. If heavies are such a rare breed, and the vast majority, if not all of them, can't really play hockey, then ... well, that certainly does answer the question.

To be honest I think we should dress a list of all heavyweights fighters that can actually play hockey and see who could be available.

I'm starting with the obvious :

Shawn Thornton
Michael Rupp
George Parros ?
Deryk Engelland
Chris Thorburn
B.J. Crombeen
Matt Carkner

Ahhh... now you're changing your tune. Here's the question:

Why does the word "heavyweight" has to equal "can't play hockey"?!?

Now you're saying that it doesn't. That's all I wanted.

Laraque can't play and certainly can't fight anymore.

Mitch Fritz beat the **** out of him.

Mike, most heavies arent there to play hockey.

But some heavies like Kassian are able to score the occasional goal.

Prust can play hockey but he isnt a heavy.

Because for most of them, that's exactly the case. You haven't figured that one out yet?

Hey seems that Krys Barch will be signing with a Eastern Conference team soon.....we'd need that kind of mediocre fighter...

Though, a little reality check as far as Prust is concerned...again....please remember that Barch isn't the best...to say the least...

Fritz is no slouch with his size. Prime healthy BGL cleans the ice with Fritz.

But I digress as there is no such thing as a prime healthy BGL anymore.

Would be nice to have a HW. Its a luxury that you opt for though and we got to get better before we can think about spending a roster spot on another tough guy.

Prust is an upgrade on Staubitz (he's even beaten Staubitz many times at nearly every level). He, Moen, and White, should be enough to make us a match for most teams. Even the back-up guys like Bourque, Boullion, Yemelin (Jaws), etc... They should be able to handle themselves, if the teams are brawling.

Anybody can cherrypick a fight video where a guy does worse than usual. There's a video of prust fighting lucic and actually edging him out.

If we're to get a heavyweight fighter, might as well get McGrattan. He's the best one available.

It doesn't. It's just that the names actually being banded around do equal that.

Maybe bring up some available names who can play hockey and we can discuss their pros and cons?

He signed on for another two years in Nashville.

Godard is the best pure fighter available.

As for Prust and Staubitz, tbh Stauby is the better fighter. Prust is smart and technical but can't do what even Stauby can and Stauby isn't exactly one of the top fighters out there either.

I don't even think Prust looked bad there. Thing I like about Prust is he's like a stronger version of Kostopolous. He may not win every fight but he will defend his teammates and keep guys honest. Guys like him motivate his teammates. Gorges is another guy..doesn't fight much but will always defend his teammates, White too. These are the kind of guys you need.

Hell, I woulda signed Staubitz as a 13th forward and been done with it.

Staubitz, White, Prust, Moen..that's enough "muscle" for me.

He is a MUCH better fighter than Kosto. And it doesn't have much to do with strength. Kosto looks like a pre-schooler the way he flails about.

They also happened to be the defending SC champs and were prob extremely tired.

We'll see how easy it is to bring down a rested bear.

I thought that went without saying. He's a much better fighter than Kosto but they both have the same mindset. They will fight anyone and will stick up for their teammates at all times.
