Dreger has been spot on. He knew the deal was submitted late last night and marty probably slept on it and agreed to it in the morning.

no shock though dreger's cousin is dave nonis

Too much $$ if you ask me, for what he currently is, but whatever. I guess it's a career achievement, gold watch, type contract. But it's good he'll be back.

But but what about getting his agent?!?! Suck it Dreger you dramatic dolt.

Surprised it wasn't just a 1+1 option but glad it was for below $5M total cap hit.

Great news for the franchise.

Not that leaving would have tarnished his legacy at all, but this contract guarantees that Marty will retire as a Devils lifer, and that's amazing to think about.

I said this on the main board, but the 4.5m/yr seems excessive until you consider the positive financial impact of having our biggest draw suiting up for us again.

So I assume all the fans of opposing teams can go back to calling Brodeur overrated, fat and washed up now, right? You know, the same fans who yesterday were fantasizing about him playing for their team.

If Pavelec can get 3.9mil, 40yo, long under paid Marty can make 4.5mil.

Marty deserves every cent and every year of this deal. Time to draft his son and have the father-son goalie tandem next year!

Numbers are reasonable but I don't care about the numbers. I'm just glad he's not going anywhere.

Some jackass on the main board is now saying that Marty's records need an asterisk because he played in the shootout era. As if it's his fault the rules changed.

I think our fanbase also forgets that this 40 year old "almost" just won us our 4th cup. He showed that he still has some in the tank for sure. So when you look at the other starting goalies in the league what are they commanding? $5-$6-$7 mil? And they weren't even in the cup. So #1 he was making $6m and now $4.5 that is still a $1.5 m savings net, #2 he will retire a devil, #3 if he shows in 3 months what he had on month ago we will still have solid goaltending

P.S. does anyone know if its an even split? 4.5 and 4.5?

I'm telling you the only reason he hired an agent was to basically not waste his own time telling 29other teams "No."

I think Brodeur gets $8M over two years, a $5M-$3M thing if possible (not sure of particulars in terms of how much of a decrease there can be) or even a lockout-protection contract of $10M as $6M/$4M.
My prediction last night.

Things I am willing to speculate

1) Parise wouldnt come back if Brodeur was no longer a member of the Devils

2) A two year commitment to Brodeur shows faith the management has in the players that just made it to the Finals (add 4th liners in this too)

3) Lou was initially going to offer $10M to Brodeur but adjusted it to give an extra $500K/yr cash (and cap hit) to Parise during the term of his contract.

4) Aliens

Just spoke with Brodeur. Deep down he always wanted to re-sign with Devils but he was intrigued by other offers. Happy NJ stepped up
