Brodeur said he didn't want to have to answer questions again all next season about possibly retiring.

Also, Brodeur wanted to be sure he'd play again, even if there is some kind of lockout in 2012-13.

Brodeur said he will definitely play through the end of the contract even if there is a lockout.

Brodeur wasn't ready to say this is definitely his last contract.

Brodeur said all offers he received were for 2 years. He would not have left Devils for a 1-year deal.

Jesus, Marty. Not your last contract? How long are you planning to play?

Yeah, it's funny. From contemplating retirement after this past season to now possibly going for 2+ years more. What a change of heart.

I'm not complaining though. Hopefully he's our goalie into his 60's. I'm sure he'd be better than most 30-year olds. lol

Brodeur said David Clarkson was more nervous than him about Brodeur being a UFA.

So I was completely wrong on why he hired an agent.

I've been married two years, I'm used to it.

Long enough to be Anthony's backup.

Obviously, Brodeur's preference whole time was to stay with Devils and finish his career in NJ. But wanted that 2nd year for peace of mind.

Brodeur said David Clarkson was more nervous than him about Brodeur being a UFA.

He and Clarkson are such bros.

Saugus, this is a HUGE statement considering what he said in the past regarding a lockout.

Now I'm not so concerned anymore about it should it occur.

I think after he fulfills this contract, he'll be taking it on a year-by-year basis, IMO. Depending on how he feels, and whether his game has deteriorated to the point where the team cannot be Cup contenders with him between the pipes. Marty's Legacy is secure so anything he does short of committing a crime off the ice(which is about as likely as Sean Avery giving Marty a real compliment and being sincere about it), won't be affected by anything he does in his twilight years.

Since the Devils will probably not be close to the cap in the near future, I don't really have any worries about the second year, 35+ clause thing.

Seriously. I have not prepared myself for Brodeur hanging them up. I am going to cry like a baby the day he announces his retirement.

Marty just said he wouldn't rule out another contract so he doesn't have a two year long countdown in the media and from fans.

Spoke to Martin Brodeur. He said conversations he's had with Zach Parise were encouraging that captain might stay

Still don't understand why they didn't just put in a 1+1 w/ option then to avoid the retirement talk next year and avoid the panic fest.

Oh well. All's well that ends well.

Hearing that Johan Hedberg has agreed in principle to 2 year contract with Devils. Slight raise from last deal.
