Martin Brodeur

nhl.com says Marty hired agent Pat Brisson and MAY test the free agent waters, would you guys be interested in signing Marty to a 1-2 year deal? Even though Emery is signed, I would love to see Marty split or take the majority of the starts and be an excellent mentor to Corey Crawford. Thoughts?

Being a huge Marty fan, a part of me is screaming "**** YEAH!".. but, given his age and recent injury history - I'd pass.

Not at his age and not at the price he'll probably be asking for.

He just had his last hurrah. Nothing worse than a great player who hangs on too long.

It sounds like it'd be a complete repeat of when the Hawks signed Bobby Orr.

No thanks.

I doubt he would have success with Q as his coach...

Another reason that signing Brodeur would be disaster

He is 39 ,, That means 35+ contract and if at multiple years (Which is what he wants) that is horrendous move

To go against the flow ... Marty would certainly not be my first choice, but if he was willing to do a 1 year, he wouldn't be my last choice either. Even at 40 he's miles ahead of Crawford.

This guy at his age lets in almost as many softies as Huet did. He's terribly overrated due to the Devils making it to the Finals. His regular season save average was terrible last season wasn't it?

Exactly. Bowman needs to make that happen.

He can't go into next season relying on Crawford.

Imo, goalies take a year to settle into new teams, so write off one year...that mean Brodeur will be REALLY old by then, so we would need to sign him 2+ years.

I think Bernier is a much better fit for this team, even if he's not as ready.

Bernier would be perfect for us going forward. He has the talent and potential to be the goalie we need. Our team is good enough to make it to the POs if he fails more than not and learns to play in the NHL.

Stan did say "don't rule out anything" when it comes to goaltending so we'll see what happens.

If Stan can manage to get Bernier for a reasonable price, that'll erase all of my criticism toward him.

No it won't. You, coldsteel and the like will always be able to find something wrong with the Hawks. You'll have to try harder going foward, but surely something would pop up.

Exactly. Crawford was hailed as the second coming of Christ until his performance last year, now he's Huet with a smaller cap hit. I'd take 1-2 years of Brodeur over Bernier long term.

Yep, fans are crazy. A year ago at this time, fans were saying Crawford was a top-15 goaltender; I remember reading an article about how Crawford could win the Vezina in 2011-12. A year later, Crawford is hot garbage and we'd be lucky to have another team take him off our hands.
