Because it mattered to him?
First of all, these guys are friends. They care about eachother and it's not crazy to think they would get advice from eachother (or really, Zach from Marty).
Second, it's a business and I'm pretty sure whether the other player was thinking about returning played a major role in their own decisions...
This guy should not be counted on as being credible. Not saying the Devils still aren't in it, but don't look at this guys opinion as credible.. he's a joke.
So is Rossi, the guy who claimed the Devils are out.
It's easier to believe around here that Zach is giving NJ EVERY OPPORTUNITY to give him a number he and they can agree with than him just up and going to your team.
I don't care how credible the tweet-maker is.
Plus he isn't the only one saying so. Strickland seems to have been the first one to state we are still in it. Also the one who said it was down to two teams not three so who the hell knows at this point. Maybe our involvement is a given because Zach always planned on giving Lou the last word and its just down to two teams not counting us?
Forget Parise. There's way better free agents next year. We'll be better off not crippling the franchise with a contract Parise will never live up to. I'd rather have give that contract to a game breaker.
But really, what is Zach gonna say to Marty? He may have just paid him some lip service (like he has possibly been giving all of us for weeks), about wanting to stay, I hope it works out, NJ is still high on the list, blah blah blah.
He can do that to us all he likes, but to a teammate, someone he knows personally and professionally? I don't see him doing that. He'd be more forthcoming, or start hedging instead of doing the "Devils are still in it" thing. For Marty to be this confident, I feel Parise has to have said something very encouraging, but he could of course still change his mind.
I have no idea why everyone is following those tweeter rumours when 99% of all reports are based on speculation.
Parise is negotiating the biggest contract of his life, why would he, his agent or the teams he's talking to leak out valuable information is beyond crazy IMO.
Thing is we don't know when Marty talked to Zach, if it was over the weekend then yeah, that's a reason to be confident, if it was right after the playoffs it don't mean nothing.

Andy Strickland once bashed Lou and the Devils for refusing to use the Reebok practice jerseys and sticking with the Center Ice version (as part of a larger argument that the organization operates under its own set of rules). Even if he has impeccable sources, he is far from classy.
Imagine how stupid TSN and the other "analysts" would look if Zach signs after predicting the demise of the franchise yesterday...and then Suter comes shortly after
Haha, if he resigns with us for anything close to the numbers that are floating around, it'll be funny to watch, once the euphoria and gif-parties pass, all the the doomsdayers lamenting about how the franchise is now crippled by a terrible contract.
