your right, that extra year is worth losing our starter and face of the franchise. terrible contract.

New Jersey is operating on a budget. They're still $5M under the cap floor right now.

So parise is getting offered 5 million because that should be the MAXIMUM that they can offer him. I hate subsidizing these teams to compete with my team.

I'd say I'm game, but we need Suter a lot more than we need Parise.

I love the wide array of NHL pundits who have no idea what's going on. Some say MN, some say PIT, others say neither of those two teams are in it.

Wow. I don't believe it.

No, I mean that literally. It doesn't really make sense for the Hawks to be pursuing that particular major free agent. Not that I'm disappointed if it really is true.

New Jersey's financial issues are solely related to legacy arena debt. They operate at a profit.

Sign Parise; trade Kane?

EDIT: I'd assume to Buffalo, for whatever the Hawks can leverage.

Lateral move at best, especially when you consider that Parise's cap hit will definitely be higher than Kane's. Plus Bowman's has went on record four times (it might be five now, not sure) this summer explicitly saying that Kane is here to stay.

Nah. Cap wise, the Hawks can fit Parise fine - that's not the issue. It's just that he's not really a need... when it comes to the top-6, it's a center that the Hawks are lacking.

And no, ahaha, before it's said. The Hawks aren't trading Kane for a second-line center

I am curious how the Hawks will have the cap space to sign Parise for more than $7 million.

The Hawks have over $62 million in cap space committed for next season.

Right, but trading Kane for that center creates another hole, right?

Signing Parise might make it more feasible for the Hawks to move Kane--that's all I was trying to suggest.

I doubt it happens, but I'm sure they could extract either choice of Roy or Adam plus some pretty nice futures from the Sabres. Heck, given the drafting of Grigorenko, they might be able to pry Hodgson out for Kane.
