I don't see how Pens can offer 8.5 even, with Sid getting 8.7

Wild will get lots of top 5 picks in the draft the next 12 years if they sign him to that rediculous amount.
So on top of having over 17M in cap space this year and having over 21M coming off the books in the next 2 years, how exactly are we in cap hell? Throw in the fact that we will be having a handful of young and promising prospects coming in on ELC's, i dont think the Wild have much to worry about cap wise for the next 4-5 years at the earliest. Check up on facts before you start throwing out ignorant statements like that.

For some reason I like the fact that all of these crazy rumors don't have the Red Wings involved just because if he does come here this thread will be hilarious and all these insiders will look foolish. I can't wait much longer.

$4 million? Where are you getting your figures from? Do you honestly think Parise would sign anywhere for $6 million a year?

Before I knew about Sid's discount, I would have said I'd like Parise at $7M-$7.5M max but with Sid's discount I'd up that to $7.5M-$8M max. If the Wild are really offering him more than $8M, I hope Ray isn't matching it.

the funny thing is Parise will likely go to a team not even mentioned or thought of....just some team out of left field like the Hurricanes or something like that!

Why would teams regret signing a top line LW in his prime for reasonable cap hit?

Lines mean virtually nothing in the Penguins system, even with that line-up he proposed Bylsma would send out Parise with Malkin-Neal, and occasionally even Malkin with Parise-Crosby.

Pens top 2 lines get the same ice-time.

There are 29 other teams in the NHL. Shocking, I know.

He deserves no more than 6.5 per.

But he's the best forward out there so the rumors of 8 would not shock me.

I don't think Parise is worth more than 7.5 mil a year. I hope the Wings don't match anything above that.

Given guys like Marleau make 6.9M I think 7-7.5M is reasonable

Red Wing fans better start to worry because as soon as Parise signs all this attention will turn to Suter and the Wings might end up with bupkus.

Malkin may not need a raise, but what about Letang? He could get fat cash on the market wherever he wants in a couple years. Then what about all these young guys that will be signing their second contracts in 3-4 years? It's not impossible and if they pull it off more power to them, but that will be a tough line to walk.

Never going to happen but they could pull it off if both Suter and Parise really wanted to come to Chicago. Both Suter and Parise would have to take deals in the 8 mil cap hit range. Then Hawks get rid of Monty, Hammer and Frolik. But as I said never going to happen.

Another fear that comes to my mind is that if they really are going after both hard core, is does this mean there is more problems with Hossa's injury then Hawks/Hossa are saying.

The absolute most the Pens could offer Parise is 8.7 a year. Not saying they should even give him that, just saying he's not going to be paid more than Sid. With that said, if a team is offering 10 mil a year? Can't fault the guy for taking it, even if it's not even a cup-competing team. The extra 3ish-million a year will keep him company in the extended off season.

I don't either. 8 should be the absolute max, and I'm iffy about that number. I like 7.5 but if $500K is the difference, then go ahead and up it but any more... Surely there's a better way to use up cap space.

How is he going to regret something if a deal runs for 10 years and what a loser franchise is a loser for the next decade?

Assuming Parise signs first and it's not with the Wings.

I don't know how it will all work out.

But I do know he's not as good as Hossa and he's going to make a lot more than Hossa. Market inflation? Maybe.

Just announced on Wikipedia

"On July 2, 2012, Parise announced his retirement from professional hockey. Parise cited his displeasure with the media coverage surrounding his status as an unrestricted free agent during the summer of 2012, as well as a desire to enter the field of hollistic medicine, as reasons for his retirement."
