True, which is why he might want to try some bigger trades, which he never does.

He's great at getting value for a second round pick, but not so good at reshaping the roster through trades. Obviously that isn't always something you want to do, but sometimes it's a necessity (e.g. LA).

MCPHEE IS AN MORON!!!! No signing YET!!! he's a sleep.

meanwhile cup winning jay feaster has spent nearly $10m per over 9 years total on dennis wideman and jiri hudler. now....thats just the sort of thing the mcphee haters among use may have already suggested mcphee would do. resign wideman to a stupid contract and snatch hudler off the ufa market.

if throwing a tantrum or holding your breath til you are blue makes you feel better.....please...enjoy.

And with a 3rd line of Wilson-Laich-Brouwer? The future is actually pretty bright, all things considered.

Yeah, Ted's little commentary convinces me even more that he's tightened the the purse strings.

Sigh.

How does a move like Calgary's bury their future? Kipper and Iginla aren't getting younger, Hudler gives them a bit of "punch" to soften the blow when one or both retire/leave.

Probably more like McPhee believes "once again" that he's already built a winner and he doesn't like the free agents available.

True, though I'm not a Hudler contract laugher myself. At least they are trying.

Why is 50 point Hudler at 4 million considered overpayment, when idiot George gave Laich 4.5 and Ward 3? I think this man is just incompetent.

To sit on all that cap space leads me to believe Ted is going budget with our team. There must be some financial difficulties that are lurking. Not happy.

Once again, you completely miss the angle a poster is coming from. I'm in no way angry, mad, upset, whatever. It's July 1. Try not to make up these alarmist scenarios in your head. I mean I know that takes away about 90% of the effectiveness of your post, but.....

So I ask again, what should the Caps do Puckstradamus?

When the owner comes out and says he believes trades and the draft are the best way to use cap space on the second day of free agency, that doesn't set off alarm bells?

Totally disagree.... and go with the Ted is tightening things up stance. Mafki is going to say its all good regardless. But it appears he's not getting the green light to spend.

True, Laich would lay a brick road across an active volcano while punching out a horde of bears if that's what it took to win. At least that's what I got from the interviews.

I think that signing is bad for CGY especially. Some other team, as a complementary piece for the right players, maybe it's not that bad. CGY -- I don't get it. They have crap for centers, they are dysfunctional, so they throw money on an inconsistent winger? Yeah, ok..

Yes it does, you are correct. We wont sign anyone of consequence.

Maybe Ted should also understand that we fans believe the "best way to support this team is through watching on TV vs seeing them in person".

You want to save money, Ted? Well guess what, so do we.

It should when the GM has never proven he can bring in a longterm impact player via trade...

Basketball was always Ted's main love. I was afraid that he'd eventually have to choose between the Caps and the Wizards, and I was pretty sure of which one he'd choose. I guess with the salary cap rising and the Wizards rebuild nearly over, that choice is finally upon us.
