Youre wrong! It doesnt take superior skill to put up good numbers playing on Detroits 2line with:

Zetterberg-Filppula-Hudler

Z and F are very good playmakers/passers who set him up! Both had 65-70p and played 2-way game whereas Hudler mostly suck at defence. Calgary probably wont put Hudler on a line with the same talent he is used too. Hope he starts playing better 2-way game and click on the 2line - I just have doubts...

He might fit there, definitely, but then again you're moving high contracts down the line, or young talent.

Feaster needs to make a trade now. Baertschi, Cervanka, Glencross etc are penciled in for top 6 roles right now. Even Stempniak, Stajan and Backlund are not doing us a favor by being in a checking role. Maybe Hartley is going to ice 3 scoring lines?

If we got Mueller

Tanguay - Mueller - Iginla
Cammy - Cervenka - Hudler
Sven - Backlund - GlenX
Comeau - Jones - Stemps

lots of depth plus Cervenka and Cammy can share faceoff duties, if we get any injuries this year we are fine.

We have like 6 1st-2nd line wingers now though who knows what the lines are gonna look like.

Bartschi-Cervenka-Hudler seems like it could do some damage though.

Not sure about this move either, as I have been a lot with feaster. My initial response was wow, another terrible contract for another mediocre player but I'm willing to give it time before I make a judgement. There has to be a trade coming, we have a large salary next season.

Hudler isn't worth 4 million. The guy has plenty of skill but he easily pushed off the puck and he is damn slow. He also is like Tangs where he always wants to make the pretty play instead of shooting it. He isn't as soft as people claim though, he tries hard on he boards but he simply isn't very strong.

There were always glimpses of him going to another level but he always teases.

Yea he is a product of his linemates just like every 20 goal scorer Crosby players with becomes a 40 goal scorer? I guess Fillpula is a product of Zetterburg to since he only had 39 points last year without him.

I don't like 2.5 million sitting on the forth line as I mentioned previously. Hurts me too much, like watching 6 million in the press box with Stajan/Babs early last season.

No other option other than keep Stajan and put him in the top 6.

While I don't like to make judgment on any if this type of stuff before the season starts, I do like this signing more than the Wideman signing.

It's not icing the best product having Stemps on the forth. He is a pure scorer, can't do that playing 8 minutes a night. Would have grit there.

Also, wasting cap = not icing the best product

There is always negativity connected with any Flames move. The HF community jumps on the opportunity to slam any team that chooses not to blow it up. Feaster is also an easy man to make fun of, which helps in that regard.

As for our roster, it feels like we have to make a trade, but then, which forwards could we trade? Tanguay, Glencross, Cammy, Jarome, Sven are all non-options for various reasons, IMO. Stempniak, Comeau, Hudler, Cervenka, Jones all just signed contracts. This only leaves Backlund, Stajan and Jackman.
The only tradeable guy I feel is truly expendable with our current roster is Jackman, given that we sign Aliu.

Cap space is useless unless you use it and yes Mueller>Stemps so he gets more ice we have a better on ice product, Stemps isn't afraid to throw a hit and would be better on the 4th that Stajan was this year.

HENRIK ZETTERBERG 82 22 47 69 14 47 3 0 4 267 8.2
VALTTERI FILPPULA 81 23 43 66 18 14 3 1 1 144 16.0
JIRI HUDLER 81 25 25 50 10 42 2 0 2 127 19.7

U wanna guess which 2 of thoose are responsible 2-way players aswell? I`d go so far and say that Filppula was the best player on that line last season! Tell me what playmakers u will surround Hudler with, that are better than theese 2?

And yes! I`m pretty sure that a guy who scores 20-30 goals on a bad team( would score 40 playing in Pittsburgh with Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Neal...

The crosby thing as been proven wrong by several players and you listed this years stats. Look at last year of Filp he wasn't that great. Last offseason was the first year Hudler took training seriously and we ended up having a great year (no doubt some of that is because of Zetts) but to say he will greatly regress is stupid as he already has had a 57 point season with out playing with Zetts and was better than Filp.

Hopefully Feaster has 1-2 moves coming soon. This squad will be one of the softest in the NHL.

Not happy with this signing at the moment, but we'll see how the season starts.

No FO help, I sure hope Feaster has a plan to upgrade our center situation.

It comes back to putting players in the positions to succeed. Stempniak wasn't just re-signed to play 8 minutes a night and provide 'grit'; he was signed to provide scoring depth in a third line role. Yes, Stempniak can play on the 4th line, but all that achieves is wasting Stempniak's talents and rendering the 4th line more ineffective than if a prototypical 4th liner was to play there, i.e. Bouma or Jackman.

The Flames may not be out of the hunt for Mueller (if they're in there at all), but I think this probably spells the end for Backlund. Feaster's been more than a little critical of him in the last couple of months and the fact that's there's been absolutely no discussion of contract talks makes me think Feaster would like to move him. Perhaps in a package deal for a upgrade in centre (i.e. Roy).

Well he can't be so delusional as to think we can have playoff success with this kind of center corps. Mgmt obviously wants to make the playoffs this season. He must have a plan.
