A guy who will be good for the top 6 in Abby. One day might be a bottom 6 guy, smart player... not especially gifted...

Looks like no NTC/NMC as per Feaster on the Fan960.

Feaster must've forgotten to copy some more of those forms.

An interesting signing. I take it Olli is a goner than which sucks. For 3 million Olli out up 60 points... eitehr way Olli would not sign for 3 mil after last seson, likey he will get up to 5 mil.... that said a decent move. I like the fact that Jiri can bring a culture of winning from Detroit.

Jiri Hudler is a pretty established NHL player who fills ours need for a top-6 forward and gives us yet another option at center, and we signed him for a pretty reasonable hit.

So naturally he and Feaster both suck and this franchise is a joke.

Well obviously you're not an objective bidder, it's quite clear you're wearing the homer glasses loud and proud right now.

I like it this team is getting younger (Hudler replaces Jokinen, Wideman replaces Hannan) and faster as well as more skill but I still think we need a center who can win 50%+ or actually play stajan.

Of course. Flames addressing needs = failure.

Going into the 011/12 season, the team had two glaring problems; inability to win a faceoff and a team built in a way that didn't work with the coach they had. Both were incredibly costly; Sutter employed a puck possession style on a team that couldn't win a faceoff. That meant the team would waste a considerable amount of time just trying to get the puck and only after accomplishing that, could they start playing the system. Very inefficient overall.

The obvious solutions? Trade/sign for a faceoff specialist or top six centre and fire the coach and find one that was a better fit.

What did the Flames do? Nothing.

Instead of trading for Steckel, one of the best face off guys in the league who the Leafs acquired for 4th, the Flames threw away a 5th for LeBlond. Instead of playing the only faceoff capable centremen on the roster, the coach buried him on the 4th.

If Feaster and co. did have a plan, it wasn't a very good one.
The Flames did do something; they walked away from the coach that was too stupid to figure out his puck possession system didn't work without winning faceoffs. If they employ a system that isn't so vulnerable to losing face-offs, that's a solution. But you're right that we should've done somehing to address the faceoff problem. Replacing Morrision + Jokinen with Hudler and Cervenka will likely lower our face-off percentage.

Exactly! I'm hoping Feaster pulls a rabbit out of his hat with a young top 6 center. If we get some big bodied help in the dot, I'm on board with this squad. Much better than last year, at least on paper.

I'm also on board with replacing Stajan with Arnott. Arnott may not be as good for points, but he brings more of what we need in the short term. Which is what this roster is geared towards anyway.

Yeah that Roy trade pisses me off. We should've offered a better deal.

As I said before it is obvious that Buffalo wanted size and physicality the only player we could offer is Glencross, would you give up Glencross for 1 year of Roy?

Absolutely. That is horrible value IMO. Ott is a great player, but for Roy. Really?! Pardy is a bit of a throw in.

Yeah, but even the Riberio deal could've been beat. Feaster either isn't putting to his ears to the ground or isn't trying hard enough.

Maybe Feaster is waiting for next off season to try and land these guys to replace Cervenka. But that's not a guarantee.

Whats the difference between an NMC and a NTC, I thought they were the same thing.

Also, I like this signing. Should be a fun year.

NMC = No movement, can't be sent down to the AHL or traded without waiving.
NTC = Can be sent down to AHL, can't be traded without waiving.

IIRC

I was referring to the 2011/2012 season, or the off season last year, when centre depth, faceoff woes and a terrible coach were obvious problems, yet Feaster and co. did nothing to help them at the time, or at any point during the now completed season.

They've managed to address one issue thus far (coaching) but the rest remains to be seen.

Honest opinion about Hudler.

1. He's got good skill.

2. He goes through phases. Sometimes he will never ever shoot. He will force passes. Other times, he will shoot at all the right times. It can be infuriating. You will yell at the TV when he is in mode 1.

3. He's a battler. He's got heart.

3a. He's small, slowish, and light. He tries, God bless him, but he's just not big enough to do it. If had were 4 inches taller, 30 pounds heavier. Oh lordy.

Also, with the NTC, a player can be placed on waivers & re-entry waivers. NMC can not.
