We had no chance of signing either. The only reason Minnesota was even on the radar is because that is where Parise was from and Suter was from nearby. The Avs had nothing like that going for them.

Plus I'm actaully glad that we don't have those absurd cap hits for the next decade, it actually give us some flexibility to make moves instead of being hindered because of these large contracts.

I'm just glad they stuck it to the Wings and Pens, I really didn't want to see those two take less money and pull a LeBron and try to get a championship.

My only problem with these contracts is that sure, they look good now when the players are in their prime, with a sexy cap hit, but when the player decides to stick around playing at 37, 38, that cap hit is gonna look real bad.

The Avs probably never had a chance anyway.

Hahah Wings fans' new speculation thread....Shea Weber (http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1223969)

There's still a rivalry when you're happier 2 star players signed with a division rival rather than Detroit.

It's awesome how fast it's turned into the Semin/Carle sweepstakes despite the crap both guys have gotten from everyone....now everyone wants them.

i don't see the Avs ever signing a essentially life time contract for a player. i barely can see them tossing out a 7 year deal.

Congrats to the Wild, still think we are better, especially if we can get a guy like Carle.

That defense is still sooo bad.
The defense does suck still but one thing to point out is that (IIRC) PMB is injured and Granlund will most likely take his place.

Red Wings fans were so sure they'll get both . I knew they won't sign there.

It's unlikely the Avs are in a division with the Wild much longer, so it's not THAT bad.

Even if the Wild do get better they still aren't a cup contender yet, hell they're not even a lock for the playoffs yet. Plus the Coyotes, Wings and Preds got a lot worse so our chances for the playoffs are still good.

I agree to an extent, but I feel like even at that point you can find a team that will take them in a trade, since the cap hit will come off the books when they retire. It's a shame that the Avs don't go for the same cap circumvention since it will likely be outlawed with the new CBA, but who knows maybe they tried. There is a lot of risk in it though and I don't see Sherm & ownership being that brash. Oh well, now we can look forward to having tons of cap space for all the great free agents next year!

Perry and Weber?

I'm so just not threatened whatsoever by Minnesota. Still think we have a better team overall than them. Their defense is still putrid and their offense isn't great. Unless Heatley breaks back out with a bounceback season, they've got Parise and Koivu pretty much.

I don't mind them going to the Wild. Minnesota is a great hockey place. I don't think Avs and Wild will be in the same division forever either.

Eh, only reason I'm happier is that the talent more or less goes to waste with Minnesota.

Detroit would've found a way to hand us four regular season losses and be a great team next year with them.

Only reason I dread playing Minnesota next season is the same reason I always dread playing them - the games are boring as all hell.

This... They are tight on the cap as well. If the cap goes down much, that team will be real thin. Contracts of 6+ Suter, Parise, Heatley, Koivu, and Backstrom. Over $35m tied up there alone.

Hahaha, I dont even care that they didnt sign with us, watching that Detroit Defense next year will be a laugh.

This is on Kuklas Korner from Abel to Yzerman. He hates everything thats not Red Wings but it's still funny.

Well in hindsight if we were to dish out a contract like this to one of them we would be pretty screwed in the future, if all goes to play Stastny, Johnson, O'Reilly, Duchene, Landeskog and Varlamov will making upwards of 4-5 million if they all pan out. Most likely over 30 million on this core.

Yeah but they are going to get into a MASSIVE FIGHT over the #9 and they'll have to trade KOIVU for a #1 Defenceman....oh I'm gonna say Jeff Petry!

true, but we are ranked according to division, we could possibly finish 4th in or division next year.
