i won't waste any time arguing, it's good to be excited about a new player on your team, but you'll find out the truth soon enough

All this arguing is getting old. Judge each player at the end of next season...

Sabres fans, you're on another team's board. Show some courtesy.

Stars fans, they have the right to post here provided they do that.

Roy's interview on Home Ice today:

http://markstepneski.files.wordpress...-powerplay.mp3

Sounds like we could see a motivated, pissed off player, eager to prove Buffalo management wrong.

From a Stars perspective, this is a very decent trade.

When it comes to talent: Roy >>>> Ott & Pardy

Roy is basically guaranteed 60 points in crap healthy season and 80-90 if he has an amazing season.

Buffalo wanted him out because he didn't get along with Lindy Ruff and criticized him publicly. Buffalo fans should recognize this as a failure. You have a decent talent in Roy who gave up on a franchise and you didn't get enough in return for him.

Buffalo surely is worse off today than they were yesterday. Ott is a better version of Kaleta. They need a true centerman, not a 15 goal scorer third line faceoff winner.

Its a low risk, high reward circumstance for the Stars and Roy. Hopefully he has a great year, loves Dallas, and you resign him longterm. Worse case it was a minor risk that helped get above the cap floor and you let him go.

I'm just curious. If Roy puts up 70+ points and wants to stay long term, do you keep him or let Faksa/Eakin take over? This is assuming he'll either sign long term or hit FA, not sign for another 1-2 years (doubt he'd go for that).

Even that is debatable.
Cuban didn't really give Dirk and co. much of a chance to defend the title.
Unless your talking about 2010-11, then yes.

I'd agree with this post more than most. Roy wasn't going to be resigned next season -- everyone knew that. I honestly expected Roy to don the blue and gold until the trade deadline at least, but it sounds like the Sabres have been interested in Ott for a while now, and felt like it was a good time to pull the trigger.

Some things to keep in mind: no, Ott won't solve all of our issues, but last season he had double the hits of our highest hitter (Kaleta), so that's a pretty good jump for us. We have a number of young, talented centers in the pipeline right now; however it's pretty clear that this deal in a vacuum hurts our competitiveness somewhat. Hopefully the physical play of Ott will counter the loss of points that Roy provided.

Roy will be a great 2nd line center for you guys. I expect him to have a good year. Like I said earlier, he hasn't ever really had a fresh start, and I think he'll take advantage of this one. Ruff (or Roy, depending on who you listen to) may have burned all of his bridges with him, but he has helped develop Roy into a pretty decent two way center. Good on the PK, and commits to back checking.

Way too early to say. He may end up being a total bust and his injuries have completely ruined him. Let's not forget at the beginning of last season we were eager to re-sign Souray quickly too. A lot can change, and we'd be wise to play it by ear before really thinking about such a thing.

Such a bummer, too.
On the other hand, Dallas fans are losing reasons to go to Mavs games, and gaining ones to go to Stars games.
Maybe its the perfect storm to get the attendance ship righted.

Not resigning Chandler was the beginning of the end. Today was the nail in the coffin. not to get all basketbally but the invitable question is when do you get something for Dirk while he still has value

Great opportunity if we can make the playoffs with jagr to recapture part of the winter sports scene after being largely irrelevant here

Sabres fan here chiming in on this.

Back in the 05/06/07 time area, Roy played as a winger for Chris Drury and looked EXCELLENT on Drury's wing.

I could totally see Roy playing C for Faksa in a year or two for a year while Faksa transitions and then can go to the wing.

We over at the Sabres board had resigned ourselves to the fact that we weren't trading Roy and had openly wondered if maybe Roy would move to the wing on Hodgson's line OR if Grigorenko made the team, be a wing on Mikhail's line.

I would think that GMJN would see that Roy does have that flexibility and as long as his leg is healthy would think about extending him.

Bottom line -- Roy should be able to transition to the wing and provide offense there if you guys start getting too deep at C.

Or maybe move Benn back to wing IF the team suddenly has a bunch of good centers
