Tough one to swallow for me, but only because of the emotional aspect. I think Ott legitimately loved it here, and would do anything for his teammates. However, hockey value alone, the stars won this deal. Ott and Pardy for Roy. Yeah he had an off year, but he was not happy where he was. If he gets motivated here then that is a consistent 55-75 pt player. As a GM you have to make that deal. I will miss Ott, but at least he is out East. Good job GMJN. as much as hate it, I REALLY REALLY love this deal.
I've enjoyed Ott for a long time, but this past year, I don't know what it was, but he was hitting way too many posts, and half his faceoff-wins he won with his hand. And with all the trade rumours at trade deadline, and then starting back up before FA Day, it seemed inevitable he'd be traded.
I hope Joe trades Morrow only for the fact that we played so much better when he was out injured. And then we can slap the C on Benn
doubt it... for one we dont have a 3rd line center atm lol, but he did play 30+ games last year with the Caps and didnt look to out of place. Whether he starts with the Stars or not, he will be our 3rd line center sooner than later
stoked about this trade; benn, roy, eakin, fiddler at center this year. Works for me!
Penalty minutes should decreases drastically if morrow gets traded. As someone previously posted, morrow for spooner should complete our offseason forward rebuild. If we sign Doan, then you can pretty much guarantee morrow will be shipped somewhere.
These are interesting times. This deal is part and parcel with the Ribeiro trade, they have to viewed in concert with each other. The larger plan is coming into focus.
If Joe's idea of turnover was just trading Ribeiro it would've been a failure. By sending Ott away he's proving that he's serious about remaking the team.
We got the best player in the deal which is always important. Roy will be able to pick up most of the slack that Ribs leaves behind and there's the potential to extend him and have him be a useful player for longer if he succeeds. What Nieuwendyk almost did is just put Ribs in a time machine and shave off a couple of years. While managing to dump the useless Pardy and adding Eakin/Shore for the future. That's pretty close to genius. Right now this feels like the 2nd best deal he's made as GM after getting Kari.
My favorite player is gone and my least favorite player is gone. I suppose that's fair.
No more yapping, no more diving, no more parade to the penalty box. Beautiful.
I hope Roy works out for you guys, he can be a difference maker when he wants to be. Lots of big moments for us over the years, hopefully he can get back to that 70 pt+ player. Good trade for both teams.
