Miss matching linemates, random benchings, ect, it's well documented Ruff didn't like what Roy was doing and he didn't seem to want to help him get better.

Miss matching linemates, random benchings, it's well documented.
Going from what Buffalo fans have said, yes. Just check the thread on the main boards and you'll find a few posts on every page.

It doesn't matter who the captain is.

It's nonesense. You don't believe the rumours from the gutter, if you did than Richards (Mike) is getting drunk every night, Radulov hates his teammates, Ribeiro does drugs on his off nights in Montreal Clubs. Fans who don't like what their player is doing tend to make up off ice issues when they're not really there.

For how long did Nashville fans backing up Trotz's decision to bench Radulov tell everyone that Radulov and Kostitsyn were out getting drunk the night before a game only for us to find out they went to dinner at a resturant across town and misjudged how much time it would take to get back?

I don't care what Buffalo fan's are saying, Roy's had a pedigree of leadership going back a long time. It wasn't that long ago that Buffalo fans wanted Roy named the permenant captain of Buffalo.

You should really lower your expectations, he was never benches "randomly" and ruff trued Roy with a lot of different lines and it didnt get hin going, he had atleast 20 games with vanek and pominville and wasnt producing. Ruff has had Roy for the last seven years and almost every year Roy was given the most ice time, before this tear most of our fans though Ruff was gay for Roy and didnt understand why he was used more than vanek

It's funny how much a fanbase can be negative on a player once he's traded. Where was this "Roy's so bad" talk when people wanted him in trade proposals?

I think Roy's cap hit is less than Ott's alone.
Or maybe i'm an idiot.

This trade is great. I don't get why people think Roy's washed up and can't produce anymore. The guy is a season removed from 35 points in 35 games (and 69, 70, 80, 63 etc the seasons prior) before going down with a season ending injury that historically takes over a year to recover from. He couldn't train in the offseason and it showed last season in Buffalo, where a lot of things were a mess. He still put up 40 points.

I'm not expecting 80 points again, but I don't think its crazy with a chagne in scenery, less leadership responsibilies, and a full healthy offseason training session that he can hit 60 points again.

This is a classic "buy low" opportunity. You trade for a previous 60-80 point player over 5 seasons after one down year and get him dirt cheap. Genius.

Why do you think there were so many proposals? If you look over the sabres board over the past year you would see post after post about "trade roy" and "roys a cancer" heck just this past week we were actually talking about a roy for ott deal

You can find the same posts from us about Ott. Both teams were done with their respective players, and needed a change.

Roy - $4M
Ott - $2.95M
Pardy - $2M

Because other teams fan's wanted Roy? You realize the majority of the Roy's proposals were from other teams fans, not Sabres, and when other teams fans wanted Roy for a "third liner and a 7th defensemen", you know what Buffalo fans said?

"Wow what a horrible trade Regier hangs up on that, Roy is a leader, he's a PPG centre, why would we trade him for that?

Now it's "he's a cancer", "he's horrible", "What a great trade for buffalo!".

And if Buffalo fans were saying that before he was traded, I'm sorry but they're just idiots.

You need to troll some old threads on the Sabres board then. lol

In the past 5 years or so, you'll find no notable Sabre more despised by the fanbase than Derek Roy, with the possible exception of Tim Connolly. There is much rejoicing in Buffalo today. The organization has been trying to trade Roy for 3 years and today is a great day for Sabres fans everywhere. Believe it!

The Sabres board has wanted him gone for awhile now and for good reason. But who knows maybe a change of scenery will be good for him because he was spiraling downward fast in Buffalo.

Let's put it this way: If Derek Roy and Brett Hull were to participate in a popularity contest in Buffalo, it would be a very close race.

Why do so many people wear Roy jerseys then?

I was in Buffalo this year for the Buffalo-Dallas game and every other Buffalo jersey was Roy's, and they weren't old ones, they were mostly the new ones, and Roy got the loudest ovation when his name was mentioned.
