Wow, what a sweet day for the Flyers.

PIT downgraded Staal to Sutter and dumped Michalek for nothing in the hopes of landing one or both of Parise and Suter.

They got neither
And they will still be able to find a way how to call this a successful off-season. In Shero we trust

Edit - in other news, is the quote button broken?

We're not out of the woods yet though. Homer could still sell the farm for Weber, Nash or Ryan

Very glad neither of those guys are in Pittsburg. As long as we don't go do something stupid like signing Carle, I will be happy. Would be ecstatic to see us pick up Doan.

And with Granlund, Coyle and Brodin coming along to. And Johan Larsson. Looking good in Minny.

RT @TIOPS_DePaoli: Can confirm Parise decision came down to Min and New Jersey. If Suter were to pick Detroit, he was headed back to Jersey

If Holmgren actually orchestrated this to drive Parise and Suter away from Pittsburgh, then:

I am happy with this outcome. Just didn't want to see either sign with the Penguins.

Pretty much my thoughts, I guess it depends how it's structured but with it being so long you'd presume there's a big pay drop off at the end? Or maybe they just take it in case they do play for that long to ensure they get a decent wage right up to whenever they choose to retire....

I'm betting the league is ready to review these contracts with their roomful of lawyers to ensure no cap circumvention.

I'm shocked that this didnt happen. I really wonder why Suter didnt pick Detroit. It seemed like such a good fit.

I'm not complaining, though. It would be kinda nice to see Detroit fall off the map for a little while

Have Holmgren give Poile a call haha. Extremely likely the Preds drop him a massive long-term offer in the next few days, which he won't accept, and we end up trading him in the next few weeks. PHI is one of the best trading partners for us; EDM is not ideal being in the west, but they have a similar depth of quality forward prospects.

After losing Hamhuis and Suter for nothing, there is no way Poile does not get fired if he gives Weber away for nothing.
