Lessons may be being learned with Parise and Suter signing in Minnesota...for the Flyers, Red Wings, Penguins, etc. of the world, it's now someone else's turn.
Wait, what?

You realize Carle, Colaiacovo, and Roszival were waiting for Suter in all likelihood, right?

Their prices would all be the same whether we went for Suter or not.

Of all the things to blame Holmgren for........

Colaiacovo and Roszival wouldn't be bad ideas if we don't sign Carle. Mueller, Winnik, Moore, Wellwood for forwards too.

Well, they had one of those guys in their camp for 3 years. I know Carle is waiting, but I'm not sure if guys like Roszival and Coliacovo are as eager to wait, especially Roszival.

But overpayment is the word for defensemen.

Carle thinking he can get 6.5M because Suter got 7.54M is ****ing stupid. Hell, the only real reason it's that low is because of how long the contract is.

And which basket should the Flyers have put their basket in?

If we did get Semin, what is the most you would spend on him?

The moral of the story is if the Flyers don't want to pay outrageous prices for defenseman they have to learn how to develop them. Defenseman go for a premium on the open market. Suter is a good #2 and just got one of the top 5 largest contracts in the NHL in terms of total money. People ***** about what Carle may receive, but that's the market. Holmgren put himself in a position where he has to either overpay on the market or give up a bunch of pieces off the roster for one.

By the way I wouldn't worry about them overpaying Carle. I don't think he wants to be here anyway.

His last two contracts were at 6.0 and 6.7--one year deals.

I think any offer under $6 million--unless it is on a long, long term (which I don't believe the Flyers would or should do) is a non-starter.

RT "@BroadStBull: Source: Flyers about to sign Gervais."

Looks like Carle's spot on the roster is about to be filled.

What in the world is this argument?

Are you trying to say that we should have a Doughty on our team Or a Pietrangelo? Because there are only so many young, talented players like that in existence. Which draft pick do you think we should have used on this defender that you're suggesting we should have? It's easy to say, "We should develop defenders better", but the reality is, there are only so many young, franchise defenders in the world that can even be developed in the first place. Your point doesnt make sense at all.

How about Detroit? They are doing the exact same thing as us. Is it acceptable for Holland?

Suter is a 27 year old #1 defender. Players like that dont even make it to FA very often. There is no moral to this story. There was a top 10 NHL defender available on the market, and the Flyers made a push for him. I have no idea what your alternative is.

Is he any better than MAB or Gustafsson?

(EDIT: as an option on the 3rd pairing, not necessarily as a player).

I really don't want Gervais. In his 7 seasons in the NHL, not only has he not had a full season, but he's NEVER had a positive +/- season in his career...
