Luongo XVIII - SamJam Never Lies (MOD WARNING IN OP)
Toronto Fans: we understand luo's term is bad and that there are other factors that put Gillis at a disadvantage.
But the fact is we have 2 #1 goalies and Gillis could just dump Luo to Florida, if Florida still wants him. How is this weakness? We don't have to take negative value back, I'm very sure Forida would be willing to pay a middling prospect and pick. And if that's allwe can get from them fine. It is beter then getting LACK or guys that don't fit on our roster.
Gillis can be patient here and worst case dump Luo to Florida.
I would be pretty happy if we could trade Luongo for a bunch of picks and prospects. Gives us a legit shot to offersheet Weber without worrying that much about sacrificing the future.
And which one of those are you going to get for Lu?
Neither. Maybe a 3rd line center. We don't need Luo to get us those pieces. Gillis and Gilman have shown in the past that they are crafty and get what they are looking for. Trading Luongo is not our only path to acquiring players.

Us Toronto fans don't expect to get Luongo. Burke won't trade Jake Gardiner.

No one said it was the only way to acquire players. At some point you have to trade a goalie. This is a thread about what you want for one of those goalies. How does only wanting to talk about players you dont expect to get for Lu help with that.
How is Kulemin a powerforward, proven goal scorer, or a playoff player?
Riddle me that Anth93
How can you bring up the term "playoff player" when discussing trades with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. You don't need to be snarky about it. I can spin it around and take about how your team has underperformed and choked in the playoffs.
Kulemin is a young powerforward who is a year removed from scoring 30 goals, did that really need to be explained?

Weber would be a terrible offer sheet idea.
He's in the >8mil category which means the compensation is 4 1st roudners.
If we could get low first rounder for Luo and somehow find another one somewhere else I would be happy to trade 2 of our own 1st roudners for Weber. And in total 4 1st rounders for the offer sheet thing.
But secondly, Nashville would match, their losing Suter frees up a lot of money.
Too many hings to go wrong with that offer sheet. Plus offer sheets are dick moves.

Well we can discuss that because last year the team made the playoffs...

#1. You misinterpreted my tone, i was being playful not snarky. I still am not trying to be aggressive.
#2. We made it to game 7 of the SCF that is not underperforming. I think looking back it is a real treat that we got to see our team go that far.
#3. Kulemin does not possess the size or strength i am talking about. I'm talking about Clowe size. And Kulemin is also 1 season removed from a 7 goal season. So 10-15 goals is a fair prediction.
You are a good salesman. A very good salesman, but sorry Kulemin is just not what we need. We have legitamate cap space this year and it would be a waste not to utilize it to upgrade our offence.
Sorry you thought i was being a dickhole. I wasn't trying.
I read your arguements. But let me show you my point of view. See how I didn't say "Wrong." Like I was pointing out a fact, but saying "point of view"?
If you are Gillis, you have no pressure right now to trade Luongo. You can literally wait it out until the season starts. This arguement is based on that I think if it comes down to the wire, If Florida still wants Luo we could just dump him for picks and prospects.
So if you can agree with me that we could easily jsut trade luongo for a middling prospect and pick then we agree.
It makes no sense for us to to take on Lomardi, Komisarek, or Connolley, they all hold negative value to us because they fit nowhere on our roster.
But when I say "wrong," that is my point of view, correct? Just as you are stating your POV. I provided a pretty concrete list of issues that are currently working against Gillis trading Luongo for "fair value."
I agree that Gillis doesn't have to deal Luongo immediately and can wait, but that doesn't mean that Gillis is dealing from a position of strength. You've said it yourself,
"If Florida still wants Luo we could just dump him for picks and prospects," but what if Florida, Toronto or any other team doesn't want Lu and won't consider Gillis' asking price? What if the Gillis is still holding Lu after the new CBA is established and Lu becomes practically untradeable?
I don't expect Gillis to settle for Lombardi, Connolly or Komisarek, but if the speculation of Gillis asking price is even remotely true, Luongo will be near impossible to move... AND THEN Luongo still has to agree to it!
Again. Gillis is not dealing from a position of strength here and he will eventually settle for what he can get and I believe the GM's around the league know this.
