I wouldda loved him as our 3rd line C, but not at four and a half million.

Gotta wait a week for Doan, otherwise you've got Kostitsyn and Jagr. You're right, it's pretty tapped out at this point, ESPECIALLY if we don't pick up Semin.

Good thing (or bad thing, depending on your POV) is that JR's been saying this whole time it'd be through a trade. So even if Nash doesn't happen, could be Ryan, either Kane, or some mystery man.

It'll be a trade. No way JR is going to sign Kostitsyn, Jagr, or Semin. They are not his type of players at all.

Really wouldn't have minded it. We've gotta add cap, in the end SOMETHING'S gotta happen. For two years it won't cripple you too much if the 40 point, unmotivated Olli shows up, and if we get last year's Jokinen it'd be a steal.

But whatever, another forward off the board...

Eastern European?

And I didn't see Jokinen signing here to play the 3rd line anyway. He'd potentially be the 1st in Winnipeg.

I know he says we're "good" on D, and he's likely not going to sign anyone else, but if we miss out on Carle/Coliakhovoaosadsfakhdf/Salvador, one guy no one seems to be talking about is Kubina. Could be a solid pickup, if not spectacular...

Not much left out there, but I could see a Peter Mueller type signing or Wojtek Wolski. He likes reclamation/longshot projects with potential from time-to-time....see AStew as a most recent example.

I actually think Jagr could be a very JR signing. He's pulled the trigger on veterans before to add short term skill (See: Stillman, Corey), and he'd be a nice box office draw too, which can't be ignored in the market.

Oh yeah, forgot, they didn't qualify Mueller, did they? That'd be a nice pickup, IMO. A bit of a patented reclamation, sure, but one with the potential to yield 30 goals, with the downside being a very talented 15 goal winger. Either way, I'll take it.

Ah, just go ahead and sign Semin for the remaining cap needed for the floor, then finish the trade for Nash.

Semin is actually 4th in +/- in the last 5 years I think.

Considering the small return Buffalo got for trading Derek Roy, should Carolina have tried (or tried harder) to get Roy??

I am convinced Regier and Rutherford do not have each other's numbers. (and we have noone that brings what Ott brings)

The emphasis seems to be on adding size to the forward ranks, which is something the 5'-9" Roy doesn't bring to the table.

Haha. Imagine. But I have it on good authority that they do

I can't see anyone on the Canes roster that could bring what Ott does to a lineup. Not that we wanted to get any smaller with Roy, anyway. Plus, he's a malcontent anyway. Do not want.

A case of bad trade partners, and not just because of the rivalry between them. Roy would be another Jokinen/Skinner waterbug, which isn't really what we need. And it would appear that Buffalo is downright desperate for size and sandpaper, which we lack.

Kind of a shame, really, because he's a serious value pickup for the Stars.

Pavel Kubina is 6'5" 260lbs. To be completley honest, I'd overpay through the nose to get him here cause the guy is a tank in the best sense of the term.

Let's face it, we need to add salary, and I'd be surprised if a defenceman or two (nameley McBain and//or Murphy) don't get traded before October.

You misunderstand, I have no problem at all with Olli at 4.5m in our top 6, I just don't wanna spend 4.5m on a 3rd liner seeing barley more than 20 min of ice time a nite. And at 4.5m there's no way I think he'd accept a bottom 6 role.

Jagr or Semin is really the only true top 6 wingers left I think... Can Sykora still play that role?

Depends on what we're looking for from him. As a last resort (ie: We've exhausted the trade options and Jagr/Semin/Mueller have signed elsewhere), he wouldn't be bad simply to fill that roster spot.

Much like Jokinen, he can play that role, but you kind of wish you had someone...better...filling it instead.

I do hate the fact that a good portion the trades/signings are dependent on Parise/Suter's destinations. And while I understand it's a big decision and Parise/Suter have every right to take as long as they need to make that decision, now that Carolina's out of the running for them, I want them to hurry up and decide so players that Carolina might actually be in play for can make their own decisions. I'm going to hate it even more when Parise signs with Pittsburgh and Suter with Detroit.

The Sabres were rumored to be "working hard" to get Rick Nash, were told they weren't on his approved list and ended their pursuit within the span of a few hours yesterday. I have a feeling the Hurricanes' pursuit of Nash will end with Nash putting out a restraining order on Rutherford.
