--

Q: When you say you're not ready for the NHL, maybe you are talking about the new system the Capitals have implemented?

"To be honest with you I don't know anything about that system. It was a tough decision to make. I spoke with my parents, my wife. And I decided to stay."

Oh, and I had a brainfart..

Quote:
And WTF are you talking about way long before the playoffs, Game 7 against the Bruins was April 24th.
However, while he announced the decision on May 1, on April 20, he had said he had made the decision "a long time ago."

If you're going to speculate, I suggest you do it based on what the player actually has said, rather than simply your own biases.

Is Nardo Nagtzaam (Netherlands) also at the prospect camp? Noticed that he was on his way to Washington right before the camp started, then posted a picture of the practice arena.

Curious if he is playing in camp now.

Yes. Full roster here. Plus Kostenko. Other invitees not previously listed:

Adam McKenzie, D, Air Force; Michael Quinn, D, Alaska-Fairbanks; Cam Wojtala, F, Bowling Green; Gregory Miller, F, Cornell; Nardo Nagtzaam, F, Mercyhurst; Steven Seigo, D, Michigan Tech; Nate Schmidt, D, Minnesota; CJ Chartrain, D, Niagara; Brent Tate, F, Lincoln/USHL; Scott Wietecha, D, Chicago/ECHL.

Schmidt being the most high profile. He had a very strong sophomore season with the Gophers last year.

Edit: Wilson should have a willing dance partner in Tate.

Good to see Wilson impressing.

Haar, Wey, Galiev impressing... Expected.

How was Di Pauli? Can anyone describe his play, etc?

I can confirm he's here. On a line with Nathan Walker.

Man, it's good to see hockey again. Hard to glean too much from practices, but I can't go to the scrimmage, so some initial thoughts:

Oates - Closer to Boudreau than Hunter in how he runs practices (though it could very well change with the pros)

Forsberg - smooth; makes everything look easy; quickest release at camp--his wrister is close to a snapper

Wilson - huge with room to fill out; pleasantly surprised with his skills--one of the better releases among forward; skating needs work

Galiev - Looks bigger than the last time I saw him; couldn't do much stickhandling on the bad ice

Wietecha - bomb of a shot--best I've seen in camp since Godfrey

Nagtzaam - might be the best skater in camp.

Kostenko - Not on the ice for either session

Some line combos, from memory:

Green (A) - Syner-Herbert-Galiev
White (A) - Martinsen-Wojtala-Wilson
Grey (A) - Miller-Bailey-Di Pauli
Red (A) - Vallorani-Harris-Barber

Green (B) - Burke-Ammon-Tate
White (B) - Almeida-Civitarese-Forsberg
Grey (B) - Nagtzaam-O'Donaghue-Walker
Red (B) - Stefishen-Boyd-Stephenson

Tough to tell with these drills. Group A did one-on-ones where Wey did well--showed some nastiness and sold stick work. Group B didn't do the drill, so hard to compare.

Both did a drill where they shoot from the blueline around a checker. Overall, group B's defensemen seemed to have much heavier shots.

Don't know the pairings, but defensemen by group (I think):

Group A
Haar
Wey
Gens
Iafrate
Seigo
Wilson
Koudys
Joyaux
McKenzie

Group B
Schillng
Djoos
Rissling
Chartrain
Wietecha
Carrick
Quinn
Schmidt

Thanks for the updates. Good to hear that something about Nagtzaam (skating) is standing out so positively.

Heh, some of you should follow me on twitter

Anyway, thanks for posting info. here, I couldn't attend, tweet snap photos and post here.

No surprise to see Nagtzaam invited and Wietecha returning is interesting; IIRC, he didn't play in the scrimmage last year. I will update the main invite thread tonight.

The RW depth is much improved with Forsberg, Galiev, and Wilson over there. I like it.

Confirmed, didn't see Kostenko. I'm guessing Kostenko may have been doing some of the off-ce paperwork and testing that the other players went through yesterday.

I tweeted the forward combos after each group took the ice:

For Group A: Harris was gray and Bailey was red.
For Group B: Matches my notes/info.

Not going to make it to the scrimmage either, for now the positions on certain lines are still undetermined as to how they will line-up this afternoon, but the combos should be as above with the two guys swapped out per my notes.

Kostenko is still in Russia; he has one meeting and will be flying out tomorrow. I think what I read said he should be there Wednesday.
