Jokinen said on MTV3 (finnish broadcaster) interview that the main reason for signing was our good young players, like Kane and so on.

Also thinks that he has 6-7 more years NHL-hockey in his body.

Haha when you said MTV3 I thought his interview was on after Teen Mom

Thanks for that. It's nice to have a little insight as to why players go where they do.

It's good to see that Winnipeg is attractive to players for it's own reasons. I'm sure he considered the family friendly nature of the city as well.

A great amount of praise from ex-Flames head coach Brent Sutter on Olli Jokinen.

Quote:
“This past season, there’s no doubt Olli, from start to finish, was our top forward,” said Sutter.

The Jokinen Sutter knows is determined to win, despite the fact he’s appeared in only six playoff games.

“No question, he’s a team-oriented guy that really wants to win bad,” said Sutter. “He took a lot of pride in wanting to do things right and playing that team game.

"The ‘now’ is very good in Chicago. The ‘now’ back in the days when they were drafting first, second and third? It wasn’t very good. But the core of fans that stuck with them, if you asked them now, I betcha they’d say it was worth it.” - Kevin Cheveldayoff

Its hard not too we got him for nothing; he scored 61 pts last yr, 6'3 AND a Centerman (Hard too find), Great Cap Number and Term for a UFA signing, and WANTS too play in Winnipeg... Sounds like a Homerun too me

Sidebar has a good interview with Olli Jokinen. One great line:

"You have to go into the game thinking you'll win 1-0." When talking about his much improved defensive play.

Unless it's Philly. You go in thinking "If we score 9...".

So very nice. Even if just a one year deal! I mean he doesn't need uproot from Anaheim for just one season (not even a full 12 months).

Haha....imagine if in the future he came back as the entire coaching staff combined. Won us some cups.

Then the parade was in outer space.

Dreams. Good stuff.

Average temperature about -8. Southern Finland isn't even that cold. Yes, colder winters than e.g Copenhagen, but the summers are about the same.

I think Olli could could fit nicely on the RW with Kane and Burmi as his line mates. He's never been able to gel with star wingers because he's not a distributor, he's a puck rusher and a sniper. He can play that style as a center if his wingers are net crashers, but it doesn't work so well when you've got a star winger that also wants to carry the puck on the rush.

I know that every GM and coach want their team to be big down the middle and that's part of the reason that we got Olli. But I think being a good passer that uses his wingers well is a more important trait for a center, especially on this Jets team that is blessed with such a great group of wingers.

Joki did great distributing to Iggy
Size is important for the defensive zone and the corners. And C need to setup plays and have experience with such.
He had some tough minutes (arguably some of the toughest as a producing C in the NHL QoC Corsi wise) and still did well.

Apologies if someone has already posted this. A friend from Calgary sent the link to me. Apparently if you click on the different Finnish words his dance steps change.

WTH?

Quick aside (sorta). I've been to Helsinki, it's colder than a witch's tit what with the moisture and all...

Not that I don't think these GIF's are hilarious because they are, but I don't get why Olli is such a huge target for them, as opposed to any other players.

Just wondering.

Hey guys, long time lurker here and new to the boards.

I think Olli signing is fantastic; I can see him bouncing between the first and second lines until Noel figures out the chemistry. My question is with Olli being the new centre in town with Little, Slater, and Burmi/Antro (possibly Scheifele?) where does does that leave Aaron Gagnon? If memory serves, isn't he on a one way next year?
