McGinn is going to get underpaid based on how low his last contract was and that he has only been with us for a few months, but I think everybody knows this guy is worth more than $1.25m.

Honestly, if I was Ginner's agent, I'd want a one year contract. Hopefully score 20+ goals this year and cash in on a bigger deal, as an RFA again, next summer. Just seems to make sense.

Great deal for both parties. Like I said earlier, not a fan of paying on potential. Avs didn't here. Payed him the going rate for a top 4 defender. Obviously if he reaches his potential he will be due for an enormous raise, but a very good "prove it" contract.

Sherman just keeps hitting home runs. What do they teach in that jersey shop???

Radar won't get 4 years, that would make him a UFA at the end of the contract, he'll get a deal similar to the one Duchene signed.

Exactly. Very smart budgeting. EJ will (hopefully) cash in n his next contract because he's a Norris trophy winner.

Anything can happen, but I can see a deal similar to Duchene's. On the other hand I think he needs to "prove" less to management and could receive a long term offer @ 3M-4M per

On a 1 year, I agree with you but as a 24 year old who is bound to get much better, this is a really good deal.

Agreed. I can see him getting 3 years though. Something along the lines of $10M-$11M sounds about right. Would be nice NOT to have all 3 of our centers' contracts expiring at the same time.

With the way Sherman signs contracts, McGinn will end up paying the Avs to play with Stastny and Jones.

i could see Radar getting a 4 year deal. he's progressed very well(hell i didn't think he'd be half as good as he currently is until he was 2 years older than now).

more than likely it'll be a 1-2 year deal though.

Give Radar 3 years at 2.5-3 per, and Ginner 2 years at 1.75-2 per.

That keeps them both RFA at the end of the contracts, right?

Yes.

You need either 7 years of pro experience or be 27 years old to be an UFA.

EJ on Suter and Parise

Quote:
Erik Johnson was driving to a Minnesota lake for the holiday this morning when he called to talk about his new contract with the Avalanche. His contract thoughts will be up at our online story soon and in Wednesday’s paper, plus the previous blog.

Here’s what he thinks about the free-agent frenzy surrounding Devils forward Zach Parise and Predators defenseman Ryan Suter, both of whom have played extensively with EJ since they were kids. Johnson is from Bloomington, Minn., Parise grew up in Minneapolis and Suter in Madison, Wis. (Shout out to my buddy Jake Heisler, the former UW Badger from Bloomington who knows all these guys.)

“I haven’t heard too much, but obviously being from Minnesota this city has been buzzing lately,” EJ said of Parise and Suter. “They want to see Zach come here, and I know both of them pretty well, playing on the Olympic team with them and World Championship teams. Obviously they are two very coveted players and I think it’s kind of a shot in the dark where they’ll go but they sure have a lot of good options.”

Sounds like he knows something, while using reverse psychology to seem he knows nothing.

EJ has secretly been in Cahoots with Suter and Parise and took a 1.5M Salary cut so they would come to the Mile High City!!!!!!!!!

If that were true, I honestly dont know what I'd do lol.

As for Oreilly and McGinn, I agree that McGinn should really take a 1 or 2 year contract if he can, he could easily score 25-30 goals next year with Stastny(Was on a 40 goal pace last year with us). If he signed a 2 year 4M contract, then went and scored 26 goals next year, and say 31 the year after, no doubt he'd get a 4.5M+ Contract, possibly even close to 5M as the cap would probably be higher by then two.

Oreilly should get either a really short deal, like 1 or 2 years to see if he can repeat the 55+ Point season, or they should really go long term. No 3 or 4 years IMO, either 1,2 or 6,7. If its 1/2 then I would say 4M Per year, if its 6/7 I would say 3.5-3.75M per.

Also, that's the signing Parise and Suter were waiting for. Now that they know EJ is going to be around a while, they'll sign here soon.
4 years, $4M per season each. It would be so wonderful to read all the reactions.
