I'm the complete opposite. As a righty, i always hold my stick in my left hand while skating backward with one hand on the stick. The way i usually hit is with one hand off the stick. When i'm on my off side that leaves me in a jam and i have to hit with both hands on the stick (or throw a hip). When im on my right side i can keep my stick out to block a possible pass all while throwing everything i have out of my right shoulder on the boards.
I would always put two hands on my stick right before hitting along the wall, when the forward is trying to beat you wide. Would let me lean into the hit a lot more. If your hitting with one hand on the stick, then you're right, it's a little more awkward hitting on your off-side.

I can see 5.2 if it's a 4 year deal and burns up two UFA years. For a two year deal, it's a bit higher than I think they could get him for.
