I am loving this contract... Can't believe we signed jones to 4 mil and EJ to 3.75... Although they can't be compared, I wouldn't have been able to call it a month ago. Sherman's a tank.

Amazing deal, only complaint: I would have preferred five years.

I seriously cannot believe Sherman was able to sign EJ at that price all while eating up two UFA years.

Going past to two UFA years with this cap-hit pretty much shows that Johnson wants to be here, and is not all about the $.

Very nice to see!

The great thing is this sets up that discussion already. If EJ got, say $4.5m AAV, and progressed as expected, that's like a $6.5m+ per year contract next. At $3.75m, not so much. Even huge progression justifying, say, a $2m per year raise, would take him to $5.75m AAV.

Sherm the Worm. What a man.

So this means we have to spend more on free agents to get to the cap floor.

Could it be, and I know this is a stretch, that these players want to play and enjoy playing in Colorado?

Then why didn't we re-sign Porter? Are you saying he hates Colorado? Geez Ceremony there is being edgy and there's being offensive.

now get that man a top pairing partner. don't leave him on his own to suffer. that's a hell of a deal. no wonder he didn't sign for 5-6.

Awesome!

This is great for the Avs but ALSO great for EJ.

Remember a while back, when I was saying that it wouldn't be wise to sign him to a $5M+ contract when you consider where he's at in his development??

Now EJ can focus on becoming a better player and continuing to progress instead of trying to live up to a certain contract and the expectations that come with it. (**A luxury that Paul Stastny never had....[not that he's crying over it])

Colorado is a great place for EJ to play right now. He's got tons to prove and will be given the opportunity. Love Sherman.

Yep, you totally nailed it on the head.

After doing a quick CapGeek.com calculation, the Avs have 17.8 million in cap space and sit at $52,308,333, with only McGinn and O'Reilly left to sign, and that is including Olver whom we have not been given the official confirmation that he's signed, and just remember that it is the Avalanche who are saying it's not official, because they've posted signing updates for every RFA re-signing but Olver.

If we take Olver out of that equation for now, the Avs have $51,708,333 committed against the cap and cap space of $18,491,667.

BTW, our LW depth for the Avs is crap according to CapGeek.com (in terms of # of LW's,) we have TWO, Landeskog and McLeod.

all these deals make me think the team is buying into what the avs are trying to do here. I smell them trying to make a "dynasty." These guys want to stick together as a group in Colorado and make a run for it sometime in the future.

i'm gonna need to see some players stepping it up and us adding some very good FA pieces to believe the dynasty part.

they're building a good team for sure. not quite the dynasty build yet since the team has yet to spend. the past few seasons you can blame the CBA uncertainty. you can't now.
