Time to retire this thread almost, but now I get to do one of my favorite things and guess the line combos though I don't think there's a ton of mystery. Still ... feels good that these guys will be on the ice soon.

On another note, is there a chance there are a few (or more?) trades within the next few days? A couple people were saying that there were multiple deals in place that just needed the CBA to be completed to be announced.

You guys are awesome .... now send back Philip Larsen and let's get this show on the road.

5 goals and 15 points in 27 games including a 2 assist game yesterday. You guys are almost overworking him too playing him 26 minutes a game.

That boy needs back in Dallas ... now.

Reliable people or HF speculation?

My guess is trades can't happen until training camp starts. Though I'd guess contracts could be signed (looking at you Jamie Benn) as soon as the CBA is ratified by the PA and the NHL.

Well now there is a very good chance to resign Roy now, depending on what happens with rookies and what not.

Speculation, haven't seen anything reliable. I heard they couldn't even talk about it though, but some GMs might be ready to make a move after all of that. Who knows, we'll see.

@RealKyper Note on new #CBA compliance buyouts. #NHL clubs can use the 2 buyouts over the next 2 summers only. Also option to use both buyouts at once

It was great experience for Jamie in Hamburg, he really helped the team. Hamburg fans and the GM are very thankful for his time.

I'm 99,9% sure that he will be a Dallas Star for the next years, I would say 5-6 years.

Just a funny side note:
Jason Pominville was very (postive) confused as the crowd screamed his name while a Adler Mannheim home game.
This is the european culture to push the team forward.

Really happy and everything. I'm a little confused with the draft. What's with this new draft lottery? The bottom 14 teams have the same chance at #1 overall?

Does not sound like that will be the case. I'm sure it will be some sort of ball system where your percentage to win gradually goes down. Teams in the old system had single digit chances if they just missed out on the playoffs.

The only significant change report at this time is what happens when you win. Previously, you moved up 4 spots in the draft, that meant only the Bottom 5 teams had a shot at the top pick. Now obviously every team had a shot, but it's doubtful that shot is equal.

One situation already being reported by a reliable source (Russo - beat writer for the Wild) is that Minnesota may have to make a move for a defenseman with two Top 6 projected D injured.

You can look at Dallas D several ways, based on recent GM Joe comments at the Texas Stars games, he singled out Dillon and Jordie Benn as potentially being ready for the NHL. If that's true, Dallas has 8 defenseman ready to go: Benn, Daley, Dillon, Fistric, Goligoski, Larsen, Robidas, and Rome. You could trade one, but the simple and locigal solution is Jordie probably can just stay in the AHL for right now.

Another way you could look at this is Jamie Oleksiak is ready. Personally, I think he'd be fine in the NHL right now, but I have to admit Matt Niskanen's flash in the pan career in Dallas makes me gun shy. D traditionally develop slower than forwards, and I'd like to maybe see Jamie spend a bit more time playing at a high level in the AHL. If that's not how the team feels, now you've got 9 NHL ready D.

The way I see the Stars going is likely not making a move just so they can see what they have. Plus, I believe the odd man out is probably Fistric, and I don't know I'm confident you'd be getting good value for him at this point. Sure, it'd be grand to see Robi moved, but I don't think that's a realistic thing to expect from GM Joe right now.

I'm almost positive it's on their minds as well. No need to rush him imo.

They can have Robidas though. (this is me begging for them to take him)

I haven't seen any info on the trade deadline this season, but you'd think we'd be looking at around mid season or 25 to 30 games. That puts the deadline probably in the first two weeks of March.

If you're scratching and clawing for one lockout positive, I'd go with Brenden Morrow. I'm still taking the wait and see approach, but I don't buy that this guy will ever be 100% healthy in his career again. That said, he'll probably never be healthier than he is right now either.

Once you get past the obvious stumbling block that GM Joe hates trading when he's in a playoff position, I point to the Grossmann trade as how this could be a potential good situation for Dallas.

Realistically, we're all very excited about Dallas' team this year, but I don't think anyone is touting they have Stanley Cup aspirations. IMO, like Larsen last year who stole a roster spot mid season, Reilly Smith could likely be banging down the door to make the jump. If it's not him, we know they are also very high on Matt Fraser as a trigger man. With a built in replacement, I still hold out hope that this is Dallas' only opportunity to make a deal with Morrow to get valuable assets in return.

Even in a short season, I think you're still looking a fairly stereotypical trade deadline, and Morrow (at least one that hopefully shows he's "healthy" through half a season) could be a must have addition for a team ready to compete for a Stanley Cup but faced with the reality of having their team dismantled in the summer to some extent because of a lowered cap.

Talking about trade deadline...

@DaveLozo During the 1995 NHL season, the trade deadline was April 7. Something to keep in mind this time around.

There are no restrictions on pro players. The key is though that the teams are going to go with very small camp rosters.

I imagine you're looking at 15 to 20 forwards on the roster, and my guess is it's much closer to 15.

He's one though that could definitely sneak on the roster.

Agreed. Him, Ritchie, and Dillon are the only ones with the chance, I believe. Excluding of course Eakin and Vinny.

I was reading something that said NYI would likely have Strome at camp and play him in a his max allotted games in the NHL. Do you guys think Ritchie is ready? I've only watched him about 8-10 times.
