I don't mind Arnott being a Dallas Star, but I'd be pretty pissed if his presence resulted in losing Sceviour on waivers.

On the other hand, we still don't have confirmation Sceviour is coming to camp. His waiver status could force him to miss out on camp so Dallas doesn't even have to worry about exposing him to waivers.

Luckily, Sceviour isn't eligible to become a Group 6 UFA this summer.
Seriously doubt he'll be at camp because of that status.

I agree ... and that's sort of a **** move by Dallas.

Anyone that's watched that guy in Austin can see he's paid his dues. I don't want to lose him, and I know this is pretty much the only scenario they don't lose him (assuming there's leg to Arnott skating with Dallas). I just hate he's not getting the opportunity.

Regarding Arnott, maybe he just lives in Dallas now. We always hear about these guys coming back because they love the city. There are still guys practicing with Toronto today that are property of other teams.

Luongo in Miami is a popular example.

He does live in Dallas. Think one of the DBD people reported it. I wouldn't put too much stock in him skating with us as a sign he's going to sign.

Players will have their own room on the road with the new CBA. Not the case for players on entry level contracts.
Eakin and Vincour better get cozy. Maybe they'll have to rotate with Dillon on who gets the room alone ... or may odd man out get's the bathtub.

That's actually a pretty huge perk. Those hotel rooms add up in a hurry for the owners.

Hell no to Arnott. I can't think of many players I'd like to see return less than him. He's d-o-n-e. Stars will earn their geezer label if they sign him.

The rules about trading cap space are coming out ... from Mirtle and Cap Geek:

*You can retain up to 50% of a player contract
*You can do this for a limit of 3 player contracts (assuming at a time)
*Retain player cap hits can't be more than 15% of the salary cap (Right now that would be $9.645 million this season)

Garth Snow is probably wetting himself in excitement at this new rule.

I don't see it being used very often at all though, personally.

I totally disagree. This is the reason trades will actually have a chance of increasing mid-season.

I think it will also be common practice at the trade deadline when salary cap teams are acquiring expiring contracts to try and fit under their cap.

This is one of the more exciting rules IMO that has passed. How many times do you hear you can't trade Player A to Team B because their cap hit is too high. Brian Burke has been vocal about getting this part added.

Yea, but how many GMs are just gonna be okay with keeping the cap? Obviously they'll probably be getting a bit more value out of the deal (maybe a lot), but I just have a hunch that it won't become common practice.

Most contracts in this league aren't the monster deals that were a major issue in the lockout. More often than not you're probably talking retaining the cap hit for the rest of a season, in other cases it would only be 1 or 2 season.

I could be off, but this is going to be hugely important next year when you see the cap plummets to $64.3. The number one complaint from fans, media, and teams about trades has been this issue over and over. It's always the top compliant about why trades don't happen.

Talk about a waste:

@StapeNewsday: #Isles news: L. Visnovsky has decided to stay in Slovakia for the rest of the season, via his agent
I couldn't find any articles saying the 2nd round pick they gave is conditional, and one of the best sites (IMO) for draft pick transactions also doesn't indicate it was a conditional pick.

If he ever comes back to the NHL, he'd likely be forced to play out the final year of his contract. At 36 though, he may never come back. He's probably making pretty good money in the KHL.

I guess that explains why he got traded for so little in the first place though.

I'm pretty sure the PA use to have the CBA on their website open for anyone to download.

I swear I've downloaded it there several times when I needed to look something up.

Why would they not do it again?

What's that say about the Islanders when someone would rather play in Russia?

I think the GM's wont care that much, especially if its an expiring deal at the deadline. If you are trading the player away, chances are you dont need that cap space the rest of the year, and you arent paying that player any more money. And it should increase the return you get.

That's the owner's fault. They locked him out opening the door for him to sign a contract in the KHL. The KHL contract he signed didn't necessarily require an out clause. I find it hard to believe that the IIHF would bend over backwards for the NHL if there was a dispute when they locked out their own players.

Technically yes he should have to return, but I have no doubt the Russian teams have no issue looking past that.

There were reports earlier that some teams are offering an incentive for their NHL players to not leave Russia.

I don't see a problem with leaving Sceviour down in the AHL for the rest of the year. It's only a half a season.
