It is mindboggling imo.
Even if he has a 10% chance of rebounding into a solid player, you take the chance (and I'd argue that under a different coach, those odds are much better than 10%).

What do we lose in giving him another chance?

If you send him to the AHL, he's not coming back.

(This is assuming we're not a cap team. I wouldn't avoid signing a player because Gomez was using the cap space. If we can spend to the cap and get good players, I have no problem sending Gomez down)

Why? He's here. He doesn't seem to be going anywhere (trade, bought-out etc.). So the options are to stuff him into the minors or see if we can get some value out of him, either by his play or by tricking someone else to take him on. Although I'm more favoring the latter, you never know. With new management he may become useful. It's not as if our team is going to be contending for the cup any time soon. Heck, we may not even get into the playoffs. If we were cup contenders then yes, wouldn't want him no where near our team, but as it stands, it's a low risk venture. Why not see what he can do? Can't really hurt our team too much.

Really owe it to Plekanec to get him a top notch winger IMO

dunno...with a couple strong wingers in Hamilton, I could definitely see him potting 50 points...55 maybe.

For 20 games ?

No, Gomez doesn't deserve another chance. He's already had one.

Watch Gomez gets 100 points.

If Bergevin doesn't get any other signings done and no trades done before the start of the season I expect Gomez to be in uniform at the start of the season

lol i rly ried to explain to people who kept making all their line ups without gomez, that he is STILL on the team and that nothing has been done regarding his situation YET

but its just funny how everyone has completely wiped him off the map and just make up their day dream line ups, while gomez is still the big elephant in the room nobody wants to look at

i do hope he gets buried in the minors, and i ALSO gave him one last chance after last year, but i just got a bad feeling about this

something must be done

Makes sense to give him a chance if he's on the team. Maybe a new coach/GM will rekindle his fire. If doesn't work out, then drop him into the minors.

depends of our cap situation. If we're far away from the max, I say yes. But if it doesn't work again, send him to the farm and that's it. As long as he's not on reentry, we're fine.

I was right , i always said Gomez will be back.
MB said so yesterday , so happy to hear that.I feel it was more the way the part was being used than anything.
Like towing a 28 foot trailer with a toyota tercel....sure it can do it .... it ain't smart for long .

If Gomez is still draggin anchor after 25 game, then i think down he goes.
The Martin Gauthier era was just a total scrambled egg, and i want to see Scott with a new system .

Don't know if this was posted or not. Berg made it official that he will not buy out gomez. (edit: don't feel like looking back since Gomez isn't even worth that time or energy, let alone the time or energy being wasted on him in the pros)

There are alot of, "IF's" involved with Gomez. I think, IF, he makes it to preseason in awesome shape and finds his game, I would give him another chance. Prior to that, if we are able to swing a deal for a true #1 centerman, then I'd just bury him in Hamilton or trade him (if that's actually possible).

He did have a good preseason last year but was marred with injuries, whether all physical, I'm not sure. Also, our style of play under Martin/Cunny was completely counter to what he (and others) had played when they had their greatest offensive outputs.

I hope Therrien adapts his coaching style, like how Vigneault did. Furthermore, Gomez needs complimentary wingers. Pouliot-Gomez-Gio had some decent success because they each had a role to their own role to play. I know Martin like pairs, instead of trios, but with sticking him with duds, you can't really expect much production.

He's a good character guy. He just needs a reboot. I'm hoping our new staff can stimulate him to move past his mental blocks and find new life.

Good... glad to hear that the buy-out option is off the table, hope he sticks to that.

Which means that either he ends up traded, in Hamilton, or makes the team out of camp...

depending on how the next 2-3 weeks unfold, I won't be shocked to see a trade surface.

for a non-cap spending team, even with the CBA expiring, Gomez could be a very reasonable low risk/high reward player to acquire.

goes without saying that the asking price will be minimal, and despite being woefully overpriced on the cap hit, at a average remaining salary of 5M$/year, it's not totally unreasonable to think that he could get himself back within striking distance of that kind of value in the right situation.

No, weve been the laughing stock of the nhl ever since we picked up his abysmal contract, he's had so many chances. I thought it was a mistake picking him up, i would rather invest in the kids.

Why is everyone saying we've given him enough chances? Saying that implies offensive production. It's time to let that whole idea go. Time to look at him for what he is, a defensive good locker room guy who is retardedly overpaid. Why can't he be a retardedly overpaid winger who is liked in the room?
