Loyalty? [IF] 20 or 30 million dollar difference with more money up front????

You bet Loyalty factors in….Loyalty to his family's future that is.

He's going to be rich beyond 90% of all NHL players and 99% of all humanity - how much money is enough?

From the Wilderness Zen Lord himself, I'm surprised you would think "green" is the driving force behind career decisions like this. It's gotta be more than just that or he would have already taken the largest offer.

Well two teams could theoretically offer 80...One paying 60 or so million in the first few years and the other 40 or so in the first few years.....HUGE difference.

Your right but when you think about it, no matter what he gets 70, 80, 90 or 100 million he still has enough money for a future.

It seems like they are linked, but I can't imagine why. The Suter watch has been much quieter than Parise's.

At least one is, the Wild. Not sure what the other offers are.

If Zach leaves and I'm Lou, I throw whatever is in the checkbook at Semin and Doan. Semin played great under Hunter and was a good in the playoffs. Zach's actual point production needs to be replaced. Doan would provide great veteran leadership and some points as well.

Kovalchuk-Zajac-Semin
Elias-Henrique-Doan
Zubrus-Josefson-Clarkson
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

Doan said he wouldn't decide until the 9th. That's when Phx's ownership issue is announced as resolved/in-tatters.

I think it is very much different for a pro athelete who's window of opportunity is like a mayfly's life cycle....In 10 years his career is most likely going to be over and he'll still have two thirds of his life to live.

You don't need to be happy or content when your window is that small.

Jack Hillen signed with the Caps. I'm sure you were all waiting on edge to see where he would go.

Washington Capitals ‏@washcaps

#Caps sign defenseman Jack Hillen to a one-year contract. Discuss it here: http://wshca.ps/MLnLWS

Assuming we can get Semin if Parise leaves I am actually not to disappointed. Our defense is going to be better, we get close to replacing the point production. The only major step backwards is locker room, but you have to have faith that people are going to step up (Cough Kovy).

Huh? How is our defence going to get better if we replace Parise with Semin?

Exactly. No one ever said Semin is a bad guy. People have said words about his work ethic.. but that is something that would be addressed by Lou and teammates like Kovy, Volchenkov, and even Elias and so on. The veteran leadership in NJ beats the hell out of what the Caps have and a change of scenery would be good for him. Could you imagine a fully healthy Kovy ripping slappers and a motivated Semin letting his deadly wristers fly on our powerplay? Wow.

Edit: I agree with you but not on the defense part.

I thought Parise went home last night?

Can't he just do a conference call with his family and get this over with already?

I'll say this one time and one time only. If Zach really wanted to stay here like he kept saying, none of this would be going on and it wouldn't be dragging out like this.

He's chasing every dollar he can get (which is fine) and looking for someone to lead him to a Cup. But if he goes to the Pens, I'll never remember him fondly or as a legitimate captain. He'll be competing directly against us, and will be asking Malkin and Crosby to help get him a Cup.

Zach Parise on whether he will make a decision (and announce it) today: "Anything is possible."
