Well now Devils have to move a D-man

Sal-Zid
Tallinder-Larsson
Greene-Volch
Fayne-HArrold

Tallinder is odd man out I think

As solid defensively as they come. Not a fan of 3 years >35, but ohhhhhhhh welllllllllllllllllllllllll.

*looks at EJ contract* *looks back at Sal contract*

He's had some injury issues recently, hasn't he? If he can stay healthy and play out the entire contract it's a solid deal. But being a 35+ contract, there is some risk there.

The years might have been needed to get the cap hit.

Devils got a solid price for a steady stay-at-home defenseman.

This is a good move for Lou if plan B has to happen without Parise. It allows them to trade a defensemen, either Greene or Tallinder to get a forward.

Probably Greene since he has more value around the league.

Smart move by Lou.

I thought there was some concussion issues, but if he's already played a full season symptom free - he should be good to go.

Inner ear concussion. Apparently very different.

New CBA will have an amnesty clause. Plus they may do away with the 35 and older clause. It hurts veteran players getting multi-year contracts.

As has been the case with many of the deals made this Free Agent Frenzy, probably a year longer than ideal... But I'm thrilled to get Sal back - even when he's not scoring like he was in the playoffs, he brings a gritty and steady force on the blue line. For a guy who is somewhat of an old school defense first player, he's competent with the puck (unlike Volchenkov) and has pretty good mobility.

I wonder if this means the Devils are out of the Parise sweepstakes for good...

I also think this might be the end of ZP in NJ.

I'm not sure why Devils fans are happy about this deal.

He's one big hit away from forced retirement, and 3m+ for the next three years...

Although I don't think the Devils will be spending to the cap anytime soon, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

I don't like the term, but great cap hit, rather have given more money for a 2 year term.

But good deal.

I wonder if it was backloaded. If I'm a GM and a guy wants a long term deal on a 35+ contract, I'd backload it just in case he thinks of retiring or somthing.

Could be the next Rolston...could turn out a decent signing if he plays like he did in the playoffs.

If people expect him to continue his playoff production, that's a mistake, but that's a nice price for a good stay at home defenceman.
