On topic, I've been reading these threads and following it just like everyone else and I feel it's down to NJD (guilt) Pit (Desire to win many times) the delay was some crazy contract from who knows that threw him off but I really believe he will be a penguin next year.
I can't see someone making a long-term decision that boils down to guilt. It would be stupid to do so.
Yeah, but you knew what college you were going to.

Glad we've got this clarified now.
I think it is focus and loyalty... I mean what does it say to your teammates if during the season you go out and look at possible places to live next year, and look at those kind of things? You want to be focused on what you are doing not what you are going to be doing in the future. You focus on the task at hand.
I'd say it's pretty farfetched. If it was the case, Parise would've already signed. You really think Crosby would have lost 10-20 millions just in case his friend signed with his team?
I'm not saying it doesn't mean that Parise won't sign with Pit but Crosby's salary has nothing to do with it.
He's also a 70 pt player that is outstanding defensively and on the penalty kill, works as hard as any forward in hockey, and put up those 70 pts coming off a season long injury and has actually scored 40+ goals and 90+ points in the past.
I completely agree that Parise is more than just a 70 point scorer, I was just making the point that guys who can consistently put up 30 goals and 70 points don't typically hit the market in their 20s.
Anyone wonder if Parise really wants to go to Pitt to play under Crosby's shadow........and Malkin's shadow? Sure, they would be set at the top 6, but there is no sure thing (cough goalies) plus he wouldn't be the top star. Staal wanted out of the shadows. Maybe Parise doesn't care and shots at the cup are #1 to him, but you have to wonder.
Personally, i'd love to see him go to the Wild and help build that franchise back up....Put another franchise on the map in a great hockey city. Not that Pitt isn't a great hockey city, but parity is a good thing for the game........just my opinion.

There's a big difference between being pigeonholed as a 3rd line center and playing LW next to Crosby and Malkin for the rest of your career.

I agree and there were other words I could of added to that but why take so long to resign with your original team? To me, once it got past the 2nd NJD are less and less likely the choice.
What if that other team is Pit? You'd have to think most of those fans that used to back you would be hating you, your old teammates and bosses would be disappointed.
You don't think that would maybe eat at a guy?
I think it would weigh pretty heavily on his mind.

true, but when people think penguins, they think Crosby. you just have to wonder if Parise would be cool with that. Seems like a level headed guy, but lots of egos in pro sports.

I know he is a winger.
Well, when I thought of the Devils I thought:
1. Brodeur
2. Kovalchuk
3. Parise
There are not many "I NEED to be the guy" guys out there in this sport (or maybe there are but they are already "the" guy so it is just never brought to the forefront). Egotists with that attitude end up like Rick Nash.
As stated, the difference between Parise and Staal is that Staal didn't need to be the guy, he just needed more minutes and more opportunity.

Do we ever know anything though? Staal obviously wanted out of the shadows so mcuh that he stepped right into his big brother's shadow, when there we multiple teams he could have been THE GUY on.
Not saying your guess isn't the product of linear thinking, just that it isn't better than 1000 other guesses made here in the last 72 hours.
Sure they're division rivals. But it's not like Devils vs. Pens is a huge rivalry. Now if it was Flyers/Pens then sure.
That is absolutely a different level of rivalry true but I would still think a captain going to a divisional rival who is widely regarded as one of the best (favorites to win) after your own team just lost in the final.... idk man seems like it would be something i would at least consider.
Also, if Zach does sign with the penguins I'd be willing to bet that rivalry will get a little hotter.

could just be that my "hope" is he goes to Minny, so trying to think of reason's for him to say "no" to the Pens. I don't dislike the Pens, actually love watching them play. It would just give them too much of a Yankees feel for me.
