2012 NBA Off-Season Thread: There's a new team in town
Looks like Landry is gone.
Quote:
The Toronto Raptors have reached a verbal agreement with New York Knicks restricted free agent Landry Fields on an offer sheet, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.
Sources say that Fields will sign a three-year offer approaching $20 million. He cannot sign until July 11, the first day NBA players can sign new contracts.
Smart move by the Raptors...hope they enjoy that albatross contract though. For a team that's nowhere close to competing you wouldn't imagine they'd make such a spiteful move. Hope we give them Landry and they get Nash, still toil at the bottom of the East, and then we can all laugh at them.
Forget about Nash. Keep Lin, and then when they amnesty Calderon let's grab him.
There's no chance Nash goes to the Knicks. He's going to the Raptors or (hopefully) Dallas. If Nash goes to TOR, the Lakers should go after Calderon hard.
I'm no basketball fan, so I'm wondering what will the Knicks get in compensation from Toronto if they don't match the offer sheet?
I just found out they get nothing, is that correct?

I'm THIS close to becoming a Nets fan. If the Knicks trade Shump or let Lin go, I'm gone too.
Why?
Nets are about to trade for Dwight Howard for Lopez, Brooks and bunch of picks. They might have a good team next year but watch Howard walk out on them for nothing.
As for Howard. What a hell happened to him. He was such a well liked player and person but seems to have gone off the rails in past 12 months. Staying, going, then staying again, demanding trades etc. He's turned into 1 of the biggest whiners.

I've always been a casual fan and will only watch when the Rangers aren't playing or if there's really nothing interesting on. I used to be a Nets fan when I was younger then I drifted away from them and watched the Knicks more even though I was never really a fan. Enjoyed watching the team with Gallo, Stat, Felton, Fields etc but after that it went to ****. I can't watch them or even support them a bit. **** Carmelo, **** JR Smith, and **** Dolan. I don't like what's going on over there at all. With the Nets moving to Brooklyn, it makes sense for me to root for them even if it is as a casual fan.

Has nothing to do with Howard.
1) I'm from Brooklyn.
2) I ****ing hate James Dolan and what he's done to my team. Thankfully he leaves the Rangers pretty much alone, but he has ****ed up my Knicks to a fare-thee-well. With everything that has gone on over the last decade, culminating in the undercutting of Donnie Walsh and the overpayment for Melo last year, it's come down to a last straw. The best things about the Knicks now are Lin and Shumpert. Today I've read reports that make it look like one or both might be gone in Dolan's petulant little 13-year-old-like quest to acquire his favorite stars. If that happens I'm done. Hell, I'm already kinda rooting for the Nets in addition to the Knicks.

I'm not a big fan so I'm no expert, but just looking at the standings is Toronto really good enough for Nash to want to go there knowing he wants a ring? Or is it just a Canadian thing?

Think of it as almost identical to the Nash Situation in Columbus basically, lol.
