Where Is Global Warming? Oh, There It Is!

A little bit of with the title, but to all the people who ask "where's global warming" when it's a little cool where they are compared to normal, how do you explain this?:

Quote:
Heat is beating records around the country: the first five months of 2012 have been the hottest on record in the contiguous United States. And that's not including June, when 164 all-time high temperature records were tied or broken around the country, according to government records.

That's unusual, since the most intense heat usually comes in July and August for much of the country, said Jake Crouch, a climate scientist with National Climatic Data Center. For example, only 47 all-time high records were tied or broken in June of last year.

Also, more than 40,000 daily heat records have been broken around the country so far this year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Compare that with last year —the ninth warmest on record — when only 25,000 daily records had been set by this date.

That's great, but Exxon-funded scientific studies told me differently. Soooo.

Eh. Their fault for not being rich. They need to work harder and stop living off the rest of us.

Man Made Global Warming does exist and it's best not to deny it, but that is not what is causing this heatwave. Weather is naturally wonky like this. There are still cycles, of which we are in a warm one, but what the excess greenhouse gases does is push the cycles into warmer territory.

So natural cycles have more to do with this than greenhouse emissions.

Yup, absolutely, hence why I used the smiley in the first line. The point is the main argument used by those that say ACC is a hoax is that it's cooler than normal where they are. So now that it's almost certainly hotter than normal where they are, I'd like to know their explanation.

Kudos on the JXC-style thread title. Not sure if that was intentional or not.

Heh.

I'd been reading webpages about stealth parodies this afternoon. Guess it got into my subconscious.

I can't wait for JXC's "Yeah, well, explain this poorly sourced article that says you're wrong for me" response.

Well, we had an unusually warm winter this year, not to mention an unusually low amount of snow. Then again, two winters ago it was the exact opposite. Usually we get some snow in November and it'll melt before the real one stays in December. But a couple years ago we had snow in November all the way till late March.

I guess what I am saying, is that of all the winters and summers I have seen, people have always said the same thing: "It was hotter/colder when I was a kid." "We always had more snow when we were younger." When in reality, it's barely any different to me at all. Things go in cycles.

It's actually the only logical result of what happens with CO2.

weather =/= climate. People are so freaking dense! It's about CLIMATE change, not weather change.

From NASA...

Quote:
The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere "behaves" over relatively long periods of time.

When we talk about climate change, we talk about changes in long-term averages of daily weather. Today, children always hear stories from their parents and grandparents about how snow was always piled up to their waists as they trudged off to school. Children today in most areas of the country haven't experienced those kinds of dreadful snow-packed winters, except for the Northeastern U.S. in January 2005. The change in recent winter snows indicate that the climate has changed since their parents were young.

If summers seem hotter lately, then the recent climate may have changed. In various parts of the world, some people have even noticed that springtime comes earlier now than it did 30 years ago. An earlier springtime is indicative of a possible change in the climate.

Also from NASA (kinda):

March 28, 2012

The Honorable Charles Bolden, Jr.
NASA Administrator
NASA Headquarters
Washington, D.C. 20546-0001

Dear Charlie,

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.

The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.

As former NASA employees, we feel that NASA’s advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate. We request that NASA refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases and websites on this subject. At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.

For additional information regarding the science behind our concern, we recommend that you contact Harrison Schmitt or Walter Cunningham, or others they can recommend to you.

Thank you for considering this request.

Sincerely,

(Attached signatures)

yeah funny how there seems to be global warming every year from about march to july or august, then global cooling from august to january. strangely enough the exact opposite happens in places like australia and brazil.

If I were an American I would be a Republican. I know you have a hate on for the GOP but they know about climate change, they just don't care. Nor do I. There are so many bigger fish to fry right now. We can start with the economy.

I was going to post something similar but this was done much better than I could do.

The people who deny global warming exists just fascinate me. Over on the Alex Jones channels they are saying that the government is doing this to convince people global warming exists by using HAARP.
