Doan is getting more than 3M a year. If not here then elsewhere.

Doan will be 36 to start the season. If he's more interested in term than money, it could be realistic.

I'd be fine with 3.1-2 then.

Sure on a team that will struggle to make the cap floor whose fan base needs a boost. I'm guessing Nashville or Pheonix

Someone be sure to tell DW NOT to send Couture Columbus' way for Nash. (looks at source) Oh, that's right...

I'm really impressed that DW got Robinson added to the coaching staff. I really can't think of a better fit for the team needs not to mention it's Larry ****ing Robinson. If he can do the same and get us 2 wingers that would be awsome.

I just saw this article (yes I know its a few days old and yes I know someone else probably posted it but I'm too lazy to look since its 1am here, lol) and I thought it was interesting and I kind of agree with what he said. I'm not sure Marleau is going anywhere to be honest. I don't think we need to get Nash and make a drastic move like that but we definitely need Handzus gone and maybe Clowe too. I also think that Havlat is definitely staying around and same with Boyle too. They are too valuable to this team.

I would be very surprised if the Sharks did not at least reach out to Shane Doan. In many ways, it is a perfect fit for both him and the team. Doan is clearly looking for a situation that provides him both stability and a chance at winning a Stanley Cup. Say what you want about the Sharks, but they are unquestionably one of the most desired organizations to play for in the sport. Once Joe Thornton showed up, the Sharks became a team that established star players wanted to play for. The track record speaks for itself. Dan Boyle said that he (fresh off a new contract extension) wouldn't have waived his NTC to go anywhere but to San Jose. We know Dany Heatley basically forced a deal to the Sharks. Brent Burns, someone who would have been the third-most desired player on this summer's FA market, re-signed long-term before he had even played a game here. The Sharks' core has generally taken significantly lesser money to stay here as opposed to what they could have made on the open market. Joe Thornton started that trend in the summer of 2007. I know that the Sharks rarely are a player for the top free agents, but I really do believe that is their choice rather than a result of UFA's not wanting to play here. The market for UFA's is extremely inflated and very few of the top teams in the sport rely on free agency to put together the core of their team. This isn't 2004 anymore. The argument that star players don't want to come here is simply an incorrect one.

The reason I say all that is because Shane Doan makes so much sense for the Sharks, and the Sharks make so much sense for Shane Doan. He is a right-handed top-six winger, something which the Sharks sorely need. Adding another player with a great desire to win never hurts. Especially not a player as good as Doan still is. The Sharks are still one of the best teams in the league, with a boatload of star players and a legitimate chance to win the Stanley Cup. And considering Doan is probably not willing to move his family from Arizona (he said he would retire if the Coyotes moved to Winnipeg), San Jose makes even more sense. I'm not saying that the Sharks will sign Doan, or even that they will make him an offer. But I would be surprised, with this much cap space and the alternative being dealing a major piece of the team for Rick Nash, if they are not at least considering getting in on Doan.

@PollakOnSharks:
#Sjsharks on list of teams courting Doan. "Yes there is strong mutual interest. Have been in contact with Mr. Wilson" -- agent Terry Bross.

Terry Bross is pimping Doan out to every team in the league.

Has anyone else heard the Marleau and another player to Toronto for a few players that would be shipped then to Columbus with Havlet for Nash? I have heard from 2 different twitter sources that this was being strongly discussed but have seen nowhere on these boards...

So we give up Marleau and Havlat for Nash. Holy overpayment Batman.

No wonder it's not on the boards. If it looks like poop, and smells like poop ...

I, not saying its a good or bad deal Just that I had heard it..and we wouldn't send Marleau and Havlet just some sort of combination and that's the only way we get Nash...so paves or couture not involved what I'm taking from it

Then it's a trade proposal from a Leafs fan?

I talked about this before, but if I were to do a deal like that it would be for a key piece Howsen wants. For example

DW: Scott, I am not going to move Couture, but is there a player from the Leafs that you would like that I could maybe acquire for you since you can not otherwise make a deal with them?
Howsen: Actually yes, I really like Nazeem Kadri (or Lupul, or Gardiner, or whoever).
DW: Ok let me see what I can do.

DW: Hey Brian, I'd like to talk about Kadri, who would you want in return?
Brian: Well I really want Marleau and Clowe as you know, I realize Kadri would not be enough for both though.
DW: How about we send you Marleau and Clowe, and you send us Kadri, and blah blah blah.
Brian: Done.

DW: Scott, good news, I got Kadri lined up for you. How does Kadri, Niemi, Demers and a 1st sound?

Basically we get a key piece needed for the Nash deal from Toronto (or any other team) as well as other assets we can use ourselves. So we send out Marleau + Clowe + whatever, get back Nash + Toronto assets.

I'm specifically being vague about what assets from Toronto because I dont feel like getting in an argument about trade value, it's beside the point.

what about targetting Jason Arnott. Big, good faceoff guy. not sure how he is speed wise. but he'd be a real good #3 center if we dont put Pavs there, even then i think arnott can play wing.

i dont think he has signed a contract yet.

don't need a center unless we move one (not including Handzus) - we need wingers, not sure that he can play wing.
