I wouldn't call the Stars better with all their turnover.
Agreed. The Stars and Ducks still suck. Phoenix is worse after losing Whitney and possibly Doan. I don't think very highly of LA even though they got really hot at the right time.

problem is we're still about the same with the exception of Stewart on D. We need changes to rise above our division rivals *and* to match up better in the playoffs, etc.

I still think that the coaching has a lot to do with us getting outplayed. Speedy wingers would help but it our style is not going to utilize that speed then we will be thrashed again by teams like St. Louis.

it's both coaching and players. coaches to some extent can have systems for the players they have, if the players can't or are not a fit of the systems, they change accordingly (see the PK). Better players, more speedy players, for example give coaches more options, etc.

There you go. Out of who you mentioned I'd say Arnott may be the most likely.
Some of the bigger names you mentioned would only be signed if Wilson seriously planed on trading any of his top six without getting a top six in return. If so add Semin, AK, Doan, and maybe Huselius, but I think this scenario is unlikely.

I was just listing everyone who is available who is remotely possible for our need. I think your logic is flawed about needing to trade a top 6. The whole point is that this team needs 7 top 6 or maybe two more tweeners. A player like AK who isn't really a top line player, Doan would want to play for a contender and would not cost an unreasonable amount, Huselius is a huge gamble which is why he isn't likely, and Semin would cost the most and should only be considered if he comes in for under 6m on deal with something to prove.

I don't think Wilson would acquire any of the players you mentioned in this post unless he planed on dumping a top six, like if the Pavelski and Clowe for Nash rumors had any merit. Although Wilson would likely sign one of them before he made the offer. Either of the three could be used in top six roles and I am not saying they would all be fantastic options, but they are options nonetheless.

Yeah but we had 7 top 6 before the Burns trade and we were most effective with 3 scoring lines. I absolutely think Doan is doable without trading a top 6, in fact it would be a selling point. AK is the sorta player who would only be considered as depth scoring to either play on the 3rd or to allow someone else to, he's not an improvement to any of our current top 6 but would add scoring. AK is also super one dimensional so I'm not saying he's a good option, just an option.

Basically anyway the Sharks are gonna win a cup with McLellan as coach is if DW somehow assembles an all-star team under the cap with so much talent that it's enough to win games even with the dumb system. All we need are 5 #1 centers, 8 top line wingers, 7 #1 dmen, and two #1 goalies.

LA has confidence in their game now. They are gonna smoke the pacific next season if they stay healthy.
I would love it if the Sharks signed Doan, but it just feels like the Sharks aren't "flashy" enough for that kind of signing. I hope they aren't done with just Stewart and Burish though.
At first I thought the Sharks made a deal for Chris Stewart, not Brad STUART
