all the wild had was 2nd and 3rd liners and depth players before this. now they add two of the best forwards/defenseman in the world. with coyle, granlund, brodin (they've been drafting really well lately) on the way they could be racing past our aging, slow team in a year.

I'm not quite convinced. The dust hasn't settled for the Wild yet. There is now an excellent opportunity for Wilson to take advantage.

Certainly was a loud splash.

Minnesota is going to regret that deal sooner than later.

What a bad deal.

Doug should trade Clowe for Seto and Coyle.

They have drafted well but they are still a few years out from being a legit contender.

i've yet to see a contract really kill a team, especially not a contender.

Free agency is gonna be pretty boring in a few years when every decent player will already be locked up to one of these ridiculous lifetime deals.

Dipietro?

Richards and Carter didn't work out too well for Philly. Mogilny signed a big deal with the Devils and was sent to the minors. Souray was sent to the minors in EDM. The list goes on and on.

Didn't Jagr get a huge deal with Washington as well?

I can't imagine they aren't going to try to get rid of these deals in the new cba. Or at the very least put limitations on the number of years and salaries. It really shouldn't be allowed to pay someone 11 million dollars at one point during a contract and then 1 million dollars at another. I think a maximum 2 million dollar difference between the highest salary and lowest salary for the duration of a contract is best.

I'm sure Detroit will start regretting the Zetterberg/Franzen deals, as well. There is no way Franzen maintains his play with all the injuries he sustains.

And piggybacking on DiPietro, there's Yashin's contract too. But NYI is slowly rebuilding at least.

I hope Wilson is not doing the same thing he did it at the trade deadline..Putting all his eggs in the Nash basket with nothing else on the table, then when he couldnt get Nash because the price was too high he was left with the scraps TJ and Winnik..could of had Jeff Carter
It seems like he is going after Nash and when someone like detroit signs him he is forced to scramble for some no name player and then he will tell everyone that was the guy they had there eye on all along. Kind of like Winnik who we will not resign.....This management team is pretty bad....

Pull off getting Semin somehow or land Shane Doan...show us something ..I am typically not about doing something drastic but Mr Wilson Minnesota has done it,Detroit and Dallas have upgraded,La is already deep....if your not gonna keep up with them THEN REBUILD...
Its hard being a Sharks fan in July

Yes. He was making 11 million dollars in WSH. He was a ppg player, which is good, but not nearly worth 11 million. Especially 10 years ago.

Alexei Yashin's contract also comes to mind as a killer.

The guy made over 25 million between the years of 2007-2011 from the Islanders to play in RUSSIA!

I was surprised to see that Minn. got both Suter and Parise.

However, even with Suter, they still suck on the blueline.
Parise also didn't make the Wild that much more dangerous on the forward group.

The Wild still have a lot of things to fix up.

Good for them and the Wild though. I'm glad they went there and not to Detroit, Van, or any of those other teams.

Detroit and Dallas have upgraded? One lost the best defenseman of the past 20 years and the other traded out two established players and only got Derek Roy in return. Minnesota is the only team that has clearly upgraded.

Suter may end up being worth it.

Parise? About 1 in 100 they aren't squealing to dump that contract after about 8 years.

Yeah Parise won't be anything more than a 70pt player in Minny.

Good for Minn. They get a hometown hero in Parise and a solid Blue liner. Hope they make the Playoffs.

Also, Detroit looks pretty bad right now.

So the Wild need D and centers? Hmmm, who has a surplus of those and is BFFs with Fletcher?
