The problem is that Ryan will likely cost way more in assets. Sather has the leverage on Howson thanks to Nash's NMC and contract size. He has no such leverage on the Ducks. They can deal or not deal Ryan wherever they want.

Even though Ryan's contract is better than Nash's, I'd much rather give up the much lesser cost in assets it will take in the end to land Nash. If he can get the deal down to something like Dubinsky, Erixon, Thomas, and a 1st, then it's very palatable. The only asset that really hurts to give up from that group is Erixon.

Would love to see Ryan and Doan in Ranger blue next season. As you say though, Ryan will cost some very nice assets, I honestly don't think the difference in price between him and Nash will be much, if anything.

On a side note, if Dubi was the main roster player going back for Ryan, could the Rangers even fit him and Doan (assuming $4.5ish) under the cap?

Yes, easily

Even with Doan at 5,5 m

But what would you need toadd to Dubinsky to get Ryan and how do you fill that hole?
Hypothetically you could add Hagelin a prospect and picks, and sign somone like Mueller, Sykora or Huselius on the cheap, I suppose...

Parise and Suter to Minnesota makes me happy. Now get Nash and holy **** if they get Doan too which definitely won't happen, but damn.

Nash-BR-Gabs
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Boyle-Doan
Pyatt-Feds-Asham
Rupp

That is an absolute amazing forward crop, like too good to be true.

Really hope it's true. Congrats to the Wild if it is, those fans deserve a good team and some star players.

More so, it's a very good sign that Parise is on his way there too.

Suck it, debbies, and suck it, crosby.

I'd love to see both Suter and Parise go to Minny. Heatley/Koivu/Parise and Suter gives them that #1 guy on D.

I spoke on July 1 to see Suter Pariser-play the same team. We know that now is the objective.
Minnesota has the best group of prospects in the NHL. Granlund and Coyle. Brodin and Dumba. Hackett. Larsson is another good player.

The discussions went sideways last weekend because Nash told the Jackets he is steadfast in his refusal to come here. Sources say he’d like to be dealt to the Sharks or Rangers. He may consider Toronto.

Though Nash has put a gun to the head of the Columbus organization, Howson hasn’t changed his demands. He not only wants prospects, but players who can help right away.
Garrioch compared Nash to Heatley who wanted to be a Shark. He didn't waive for Edmonton.

Some teams have interest in UFA C Jesse Winchester, but he’s going to have to be patient.
The Rangers are apparently one of those teams

RB, do you expect it to be resolved soon after the Parise/Suter mess? Or do you think Howson is going to drag it on forever.

Also didn't the Sharks beat writer pretty much say the Sharks were out?

It's not even that to me, would just be nice to see Minnesota land the big fish and maybe become competitive. I think they've got a nice team there, good prospects, and loyal fans. Instead of Pittsburgh who was gifted 15 top 5 picks for sucking and is full of fair weather fans.
