Doan is open to us driving up the price. There is no reason to point to us in that quote. It hurts his leverage (at worst) contract wise signing here to say something like that.
Tha is how I took it as well. I'd love to have him but would be real surprised if he actually came here.

Man, Korpikoski would look awfully good in this lineup right now though. He is literally the upgrade to the 3rd line that many of us want.
Hagelin, Kreider, Anisimov and Dubinsky can all play LW and are LH shots. I think he would have blocked one of Hagelin or AA if he stayed. I didnt have an issue with him being traded. It was the return that was pure garbage.

Sather wanted Steven Rice and Louie Debrusk for Messier.
I'm not sure if that's what Slats wanted or simply the best he could do. As has often been the case, at least since he's been Rangers GM, the shoe is on the other foot. The other guy is the one needing to trade Messier and Sather's not giving up prized assets. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rupp in one of Slats' offers.
Go search the last 10 pages of the previous free agency thread it was probably 1000 tweets ago and I don't want to go through them lol. It's in there you can even search my posts or RangerBoy's in that thread. A number of us linked it.

Shea Weber's options post-Suter:
1) accept Q.O at $7.5 mil.
2) wait for offer sheet.
3) sign longterm with Preds.
4) push for trade.

Of course Sather wanted the prized possessions. But Smith used two things for leverage:
a) Messier was coming off a subpar/injured season
b) Messier wanted out
Rice looked very good in the three playoff games he played in in 1991. So did Millen, Amonte and Weight. How Sather got the worst out of the four is a mystery to me.
Sather paid Smith back though. The Rangers were desperate to make the playoffs in 1993 and Sather got Weight for Tikkanen straight up.
The Nash/Ryan situations are a bit similar. Columbus has to trade Nash. he wants out. Anahaeim has to trade Ryan since Perry and Getzlaf are both UFA'S next season and Ryan (for some reason) doesnt like being a multi-millionaire in Orange County (warning sign IMO)
Minnesota is going to be quite a bit better next year, good for them! I think Parise heading west is the last thing Howson wanted to see. He probably wanted Philly to nab Ryan (which I think they will) and Parise to sign with the Pens to force Sather's hand a bit.

I am feeling Minnesota as well for Parise and Suter.

Just a bit. It wont happen overnight. But Backstrom is up for UFA and Heatley is an albatross. If they can move Harding and heatley for established, cheap role players, then lock up Backstrom, they will be set for a while. Especially with all their prospects.

Heatley was still their best forward last year. Heatley's stats took a hit but he took on a more defensive style of play. I expect his stats to be fine this year as well. Backstrom doesn't need to be re-signed. In my opinion I give Harding a shot, I think he could be very very good in this league, and they have Hackett in the pipeline. They have a bright future. All is right in the hockey world when Minnesota, and Edmonton are getting better, and New Jersey gets worse.
