That looks about right as of now. That being said, that isn't a very good team.

you took the words right out of my mouth. Bourque just kills the second line. Yes, i know we should give him another chance but the guy is a less talented Kostitsyn. The Habs dont need another lazy player on the top 2 lines that shows up when he feels like it. That being said, I guess they have no option biut to let him play with Pleks and Gionta

Replace Diaz with Kaberle and I think that's what we'd be seeing in October... and it's gonna be a long season again with that line up. If only Gally can surprise at camp and find a spot in the line up...

I really think we should give Bourque a chance this season. I understand why everybody is hating on him, but people have had bounce back season (it does happen quite often). It didn't help that he was on an awful team on Calgary last season and on an even more awful team when he got here. Everything was messed up. The coaching was garbage (can't fault RC, he was put in an impossible position). The management was basically on life support and the owners had publicly come out in the open and said that RC would be gone at season's end. Let's give him a chance, it's possible he could score 25.

I think one thing's clear by Bergevin's signings -

Bourque, Diaz, Weber and Gomez (obviously) are all available as we now have too many players. Armstrong took Bourque's spot and Bouillon took Diaz / Weber's spot. We already needed a top 4 D.

We need a top 6 forward and a top 4 defenseman. It's my opinion that we're going to try to trade Bourque, Diaz and Weber and possibly some prospects / draft picks to get them.

A Clowe from SJ and a Hjarmalsson from Chicago are guys in the mold of what we should be looking at.

Pretty much. I think Kaberle cracks the lineup if he's still here. Otherwise it looks like that. Although I think we could see some prospect forwards crack the lineup, if not out of camp then as permanent callups. They're going to find themselves needing more depth offense and some of Leblanc, Gallagher and Palushaj are going to be called to do it.

One thing I think might happen is Galchenyuk as Desharnais's LW while Pacioretty moves up to play with Plekanec and Bourque moves down.

yeah i totaly back this up, bigtime

calgary was a lousy team last year and bourque put up decent numbers until he got traded to an even lousier team in freefall and in a total mess in management

hes scored 27 before, he can put up similar stats again, not expecting 40 liek we did with cammy, but 20 would be great, if bourque and gionta can put up some goals next to plekanec, who he himself can 20 any given season, then our scoring SHOULD considerably get better, and its worth the shot

im actually not crazy about keeping patch-dd-cole together, but if things work out early with our first two lines, then keep them together the whole way, combined with our new bottom 6 to aleviate some other teams top lines, and things SHOULD get better for us, theres no reason it wouldnt

pacioretty-dd-cole
bourque-pleks-gionta
armstrong-eller- moen (all 6"2 , big line)
prust-nokey-white (nokeys gonna FREAK having decent wingers for once, and TOUGH)
whats REALLY wrong with that line up?, i say it CAN compete way better than we did last year, the BIg difference was really injuries, ..if we get a bit luckier this season, i dont see how we cant be competing for playoffs

now what to do about this gomez guy...

If we could add a guy like Doan/Clowe/Morrow to play on our second line our team could be looking pretty solid.
Yeah, only missing one top-6 winger and we're ready for the season. This line-up is pretty much what I expect, but of course everything will change at training camp. The wild cards, trades to come, injuries... but I think that we're mainly done with the FA market, apart from some additions to Hamilton.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like the Montreal Canadiens are going to address our biggest issue (imo) which is our porous defense. We likely will be keeping Gomez in our lineup at least until the season starts.

Add Gallagher to play top 9 minutes.
Subtract Weber (If he gets picked up off waivers... well he will be someone else's "what if" player)

FORWARDS
Brendan Gallagher ($0.870m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Brian Gionta ($5.000m)
Max Pacioretty ($1.625m) / David Desharnais ($0.850m) / Erik Cole ($4.500m)
Travis Moen ($1.850m) / Lars Eller ($1.700m) / Rene Bourque ($3.333m)
Brandon Prust ($2.500m) / Petteri Nokelainen ($0.575m) / Colby Armstrong ($1.000m)
Ryan White ($0.688m) / Scott Gomez ($7.357m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Andrei Markov ($5.750m) / Alexei Emelin ($2.000m)
Josh Gorges ($3.900m) / P.K. Subban ($3.827m)
Francis Bouillon ($1.500m) / Raphael Diaz ($1.851m)
Tomas Kaberle ($4.250m) /
GOALTENDERS
Carey Price ($6.500m)
Peter Budaj ($1.150m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,575,351; BONUSES: $210,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,624,649

Conclusion: ugh. That d is still pretty poor. Next season we need to identify possible promotions or additions for D, and decide how to dispose of Gomez (and maybe Bourque/Kaberle)

Unless Price is rock solid all season, Subban plays a full season like its that end of a season, and Plekanec tops 70 points again... Playoffs are quite iffy.

Based on what MB said in regards to Gomez, I suspect we could see this kind of lineup. Not my choice, just what I think might go down if they give gomer one last chance. I hope to god his last chance isn't on the 3rd line pushing Eller off the 3C position.

I'd quite like White to play C, though. I don't like Nokelainen as an every day player, and I wouldn't mind Leblanc making the club to play next to Eller and Moen.

Fearless prediction: Gomez will not play in the 4th line under Therrien's orders.

He likes the 4th line to play like a classic 4th line...and I can't see how Gomez could become that kind of player.

So Gomez will either get a last shot somewhere in the other 3 lines of the Habs or on the first line....of a team in the AHL not called the Hamilton Bulldogs.

I think the d pairings look good.

That right there could be our starting line up (switching Gomez for Nokelainen in the 4th line).... unless Therrien breaks up DD's line.....or if we acquire another scoring winger.

Bergervin never said Gomez would be part of the lineup, he just gave the politically correct answer to not stir a hornets nest.

IMO, Gomez showed much more intensity & hustle than Bourque did last season. Players who just go out & skate around without a purpose like it seemed Bourque did as a Hab, has no place on an NHL team.

I'd agree with that. Just goes to show how useless Gomez is in today's NHL though.

So if Gomez is useless in today's NHL, what does that make Bourque???

BTW, it is Gomez' contract that is the problem. If he were making $2 mill & playing the third line, he wouldn't even close to being the most targeted Hab, by fans & media.
