So far we have Reimer, Rynass, and Owuya, signed and Scrivens is RFA. Scrivens is #2 on the depth chart so would you re-sign him to be our back-up or bring in a veteran ufa goalie?

I honestly think Scrivens will get LIT UP in the NHL. The guy is no kid, he's almost 26 years old, and did not look that impressive in his 12 NHL games this season. He had an unreal year for the Marlies, but I don't see him becoming an NHL starter. I hope I'm wrong.

People forgetting Jonathan Bernier? He's not the best option clearly, but there's not much out there after Lou and Marty.

Hedberg would be the perfect stop gap for Reimer to help out when he gets injured or to play when tired. This team will be Reimer's in the next year or so, and it makes sense to sign a goaltender that will be playing for two seasons maximum with the Leafs.

Reimer can still be the #1 guy in this case but who's the backup? Are you comfortable with Scrivens as his back-up or would you rather get a guy like Hedburg to be the #2?

I did forget but add him to the names in the topic title, assuming Burke stands pat on his stance of not selling the farm then Lou and Bernier won't be leafs and Broduer probably won't sign with us in the twilight of his career no matter the money we throw at him.

I think Hedberg would be good and maybe Theodore if Luongo is traded to Florida.

if we dont get a cheap #1 (like brodeur or Luongo) then we will roll with Reimer and Scrivens. Scrivens has EARNED an opportunity to play for the Leafs and so has Reimer. Sky is falling Sky is falling, lets give these 2 young players who have shown they can play a chance.... that is if we dont get someone else

I'm thinking it's likely to be Clemmenson, who's managed to put together three pretty consistant .91+ years between NJ and Florida

At this point I don't think many would want to come here. Its like we're handcuffed , the days of Potvin,Belfour and Cujo are unfortunately long gone. Hopefully Reimer can do well enough where we wont need a veteran goalie. Say we do get Luongo what happens of Reimer starts tearing it up? lol

I think Burke is looking for a short term solution (if he is even looking for a solution) so I think Hedberg would fit the bill. Scrivens should get another year in the AHL, and Reimer can start most of the games, or split the starts with Hedberg.

The UFA options are almost nil. What I WOULD have done is Vokoun. Looking at Marty the only reason he leaves Jersey is for a little better paycheck in his final contract. He had a solid playoff but he really hasn't been a great goalie for several years. He used to win those close playoff games and then he couldn't do it regularly anymore. I don't think his level of play warrants the cost of being the highest payer for his services although if they did want a mentor type he is the one.

My real choice then is Hedberg on a two year deal. He was better than Brodeur the last two years and was way better than Pavelec his last year in Atlanta. A nice solid vet as an anchor for a year or two, assuming he is still available. Ellis might have been worth a look but not with his groin problems.

If not Hedberg I would make a trade and I would target Theodore from the Panthers because if the Leafs backed out thats where Lu is going.

Antero Niittymaki. He has talent and can battle Reimer for #1 duty next season. Also an upgrade over Gus, even if it is only minor.

I would.

Unless he is free, or if LA did a Reimer for Bernier swap. Otherwise I wouldn't do it.

Go with Reimer, more experience and same ceiling, except that Reimer is a bigger guy and that helps him with the restrictions on goalie pads.

I think LA will have trouble getting rid of Bernier now.

Who needs goaltending when you have Reimer and Scrivens?

I'd sign Hedberg to a cheap contract to help Reimer out during the season.

If the two mentioned above are gone would probably either go after Bernier or just roll it with Reimer and Scrivens. Not the ideal situation going into the season with, but could get lucky.

Trading for bernier is a lot esaier said than done. This is an elite level prospect with every sign pointing to him being a very capable starter. There is nothing more for bernier to do other than take the reigns full time. I'm sure LA would be aslking a boatload for him. Whether that is justified remains ti be seen, but LA is in the ultimate position of strenght and they won't give him away for scraps. Realistically, I don't see bernier as an option for us. At this point, its either hedberg or scrivens for backup IMO.

Assuming Luongo takes his talents to South Beach, I'd like to see us get Jose Theodore. Big market experience, and a decent bet to be a nice steady veteran presence.

I can't see Florida trading for Lu after re-signing Clemmensen, unless the plan was to have him back-up Lu, and Jose would be the backup in Vancouver.

If Brodeur does sign in Chicago, I see us being the only option for Lu. No way Devils take on his contract with their ownership problems.
