No, but right now is his supposed main choice. If Tallon tells him and/or Gillis theres no interest, then I'd guess he'd go where he feels most wanted.

sorry, i still have no interest in luongo. it's not what we need. doesn't fit the blueprint and puts marky in a bad light. the only way i trade for louie is a sign and flip for a scorer.only problem is ntc. love to get him and flip him to chicago for scoring, but that won't hapen, so I DON'T WANT LUONGO!!!!!
Then Lu had 55 gms @ .919 in front of a more defensive team.
I don't want Lu, I think a smart GM can get better production by having a few guys in the system and giving them all a shot to see who outperforms expectations. I definitely don't think there's a snowballs chance we flip Luongo for a core forward either.
Seems like you guys look good in net, or at least as good as Luongo will provide.
Theodore could easily regress next year; he's had an inconsistent career.
With Luongo, you know what you're getting. One of the best goaltenders of all-time. + it would be nice to get rid of one of the bad contracts we currently have on the team. Upshall, for example, brings nothing.
Last year in 2011-12, Arnott scored 17 goals with 17 assists with a plus 13 in 72 games. These numbers are exactly in the 30-50 range that I suggested. This means that last year, Arnott scored at a pace of .471 points per game, which projects out to about 39 points over an entire season, which would roughly translate to 19 goals and 20 assists with about a plus 15.
Exactly, and people need to keep in mind that Arnott played 3rd line center last season stuck behind Backes and Berglund. With top 6 ice time and wingers, he can definitely still be a 2nd line center.

Luongo never had this good of a team when he was in Florida. With this team, and Luongo in net instead of Theo or Clem would be a huge improvement. Im totally ok if he comes back, just not if it will cost us top prospects/players. The Cats dont NEED Luongo, but if VAN didnt get rid of him, that will not sit over well up there as Luongo has basically said he wants out. If Gillis doesnt deal him, that will be a huge mess up there and Gillis will eventually have to give in because I think Tallon stays true to his word of not giving up top prospects/players to get him. At this point, right now, VAN has to get rid of Luongo, but the Cats dont need to have him. That also gives VAN no leverage (especially with Luongo saying he wants to come to only Florida). The longer this drags on, the less Gillis will get in return, which shouldnt be too much as it is already.
I do think there are players who can improve their level of play, but im not sure our stars can. They all had career years or close too it. Im not saying they can't do it again, but i am saying that they absolutely must or we are screwed. Meanwhile, many stars of the SE had down years and can improve significantly.
Even with the 1st line firing for most of the year, and Campbell leading from the backend, our scoring rate was miserable. What will happen if there is even a slight drop off in their play? We are also minus 2 players from our PP, which was our shining star on offense.
I'm sorry but this makes me worried about our offense in general, and plugging some rooks in their aint gonna fix it.
IF we are planning to go with the rooks, then fine, I can accept it, but dont tell me it wont affect the team, the team will be fine, blah blah...
Who had down years? No one from Tampa. Staal had a good season in Carolina. Granted, Skinner was injured, but then again Carolina finished at the bottom of the East, not near the playofs. All the Jets' top guys had good seasons, Wheeler had a breakout season. Washington is the only team you can really say that about, and Ovechkin is not going to come close to his early seasons in terms of production again anyway, his numbers have been dropping the last couple years because the NHL has figured him out. He's way too predictable. Who's to say other SE teams' stars don't regress. You're just looking for negatives wrt our team. I get it, you're trying to be as objective as possible, but it's not like all our players will have down years and every other team's top players will have big years. It doesn't work that way.
Also, if Campbell for instance has a bit of a down year, then Kulikov and/or Gudbranson may very well have a huge year to make up for it. Things like this happen, every year there are surprises you can't predict. Garrison's offensive production dropped significantly the 2nd half, yet we still made the playoffs. I'm not ready to jump ship yet.
If you want to be worried, fine. I'm not going to be. Also, if we do decide to keep spots open for Bjugstad, Howden, and Huby, you have no idea how they will perform. They are top prospects for a reason, they could very well contribute in a big way. If our management thinks guys like Bjugstad and Howden are ready, then I would expect them to have decent seasons, comparative to most of the forwards left on the FA market. I'm not saying they will, but we wouldn't keep spots open for all of these guys if we didn't think they were ready to step up, and just throw the season away. We would keep spots open for them because we think they are ready to step in and make an impact. Otherwise why would we put them in?
I know lausy, but he seems like one of those cost-efficient risks the org likes doing.
Agreed, on a one year reasonable deal I'd take him. Whoever we sign this summer is going to be a short term stopgap because the kids are close to being ready. It's obvious we are not going to be spending a lot this summer. He's soft and lazy but he can score.
As a Rampage fan this statement had me laughing, scratching my head, and banging my head against a wall all at once. The Rampage have been ignored from our POV while other AHL teams stock up on quality players.
Apparently we can't sign any players for San Antonio until the NHL roster is completely set.

I understand that just because 1 thing happened last year, doesn't mean the opposite will happen this year. Things like that cannot be definatively predicted. Also, I have acknowledged that Gudbranson and Kulikov in particular should develop into difference makers this this. I also think Upshall, Skille, Ellerby, Matthias and Bergy have more to give to this team. All i'm saying is lots of things fell into place for us last year, and the unstable nature of sports may result in a drop off of some of our key members. Combine this with serious losses to the PP, potential replacement rookies, and improvement from other teams, I would feel more comfortable with a legitimate offensive addition to the team.
At this rate, our Defense is clearly our strength and hence, should be built around. This means seriously considering bringing in Louie, and developing an identity as a Defense-first team thats physical and miserable to play against. Also, maybe if we had another banger up front, it would help bleed the rookies into the lineup; giving them space on the ice and safety of mind that someone is watching their back.

So would I, I think we can all agree on that. If you want me to say that a playoff spot is not guaranteed, then yes, that's absolutely so. I still think we will be competitive though and not a cellar dwellar.

Some Vancouver fans can delude themselves all they want, but Luongo just significantly undercut his GMs negotiating position.
Luongo cannot communicate directly with NHL GMs, but just announced that he expects to be traded and would like to return to Florida.
Gillis' BEST negotiating position was "I can just keep him and have the best 1-2 tandem in the NHL"
<<<poof>>>
So much for that.
I don't agree with any of this, at all.
First, everyone knew the Canucks were looking to deal him. It's no revelation. Next, there was a common misconception that he only wanted to go to Florida. If you listen to the interview he says he is open to going to a good hockey market (FLA is not that), and that he is also interested in FLA. He said he has had no discussions with Gillis about where he will and will not go. He even stated that he would be open to playing in Chicago.
If anything, Luongo opened the door to a whole host of trade scenarios.
From reading the thread, FLA fans seem content with their dynamic duo of Clemmenson and Ted. That's fine...........Gillis will simply move on and find the right deal. Know this, though.....Luongo is an exceptional goaltender. He is a perrenial shoe in for Vezina nomination. His cap hit is very good for an elite level goalie, and if you listen to that interview he openly stated that he would not finish out his contract.
To be honest......I'd just assume the Canucks trade him to the team that wants him the most. All these Toronto and FLA fans that want him for a bag of pucks and a cap dump.....forget it.
It took 20 threads for canucks fans to complain that they have the upper hand and that luongo's return will be a sizable one.
It should take double the amount of threads to express their anger and embarrassment over what the return they will receive when the actual guy gets traded.

The misconception was brought on by media who claim that Luongo stated he only wanted to be traded to Fla. It is very easy to believe those claims given the fact that Luongo's family all live here in Fla, including his wife and children.
When it comes to the tandem of Theo and Clemmer, well yeah, we're okay with them. Clemmer just resigned for two years, and Theo has one left on his contract, not to mention he did state that he wanted to retire a Panther. They also played exception for us last season, which no one expected them too, and we have Markstrom waiting to join the team and hopefully take over.He is ranked the best goalie in the world outside the NHL,so yeah we don't want to stunt his growth. Most fans are worried that *If* Luongo did come here, it might slow Markstrom's growth, make Markstrom insulted we signed a top 10 goaltender that is holding him back and want out, and/or handcuff the organization from signing FA's right now or in the future as wall as resigning our RFA's. No one on these boards deny just how talented Luongo is, nor would we really be upset having a top 10 goaltender on our team, but we NEED offense more than we need goaltending help and we believe spending money on a 2nd line center and/or another scoring winger is more important to our club then goaltending.
Now, You state that Fla is not a good "hockey market" which is based on what exactly? Why,because we don't have fans who start riots when our team doesn't win? Or because we don't have the media who overreact when a player has a bad game? Now, you are partially right because hockey is Canada's sport, and is to them what the NFL and NBA are to Fla. We aren't part of the original six, and we are a city that has tons of snow birds and transplants from other states and countries. With that being said, that isn't the fault of Panther fans or hockey fans nor is it a lack of passion for the game down here. Luongo knows just how passionate fans are down here and we have a good team that will be a great team in the near future. I can honestly say that we have some of the most passionate fans in all the NHL. We've been through a 10 year playoff drought, with some of the worst owners,GM's,coaches, staff, trades, drafting, and players in the entire league and yet the fans keep coming back regardless. We had some horrible teams yet fans kept coming back each and every game. You may not think we have a great hockey market, or at least as big of a market as compared to Canadian markets, Det,Chi,or Pitt, but if you ask most Panther fans, I think they would disagree. Those markets can keep their sold out arenas with 50% passionate fans and 50% business owners (which I heard happens from fans from the North)and we'll keep our 15k+ a game arenas with our passionate and fun fans, who love this team win or lose.( I am sure that is not what you meant by hockey market, but I just felt like going on a rant)
Also, all these Van fans can keep believing that Gillis is going to trade Luongo for some top 6 player or elite forward, and when Lu does get traded to Fla for Upshall, maybe Ellerby and Theo (if he waives his clause) don't come cryin'. Luongo can say whatever he wants in an interview, but I highly doubt he'll come out and say "Yeah, I don't want to go anywhere but Fla and I don't care what Gillis wants" Of coarse he's going to look like a professional on an interview. Not to mention Gillis isn't going to trade a top ten goaltender to Chicago, who is a division rival.

"LEBRUN: A source told me Friday morning there was finally traction on the Luongo front but still nothing imminent. My understanding is that the Panthers and Canucks have kept dialogue alive. It’s the deal that makes the most sense, especially, as I pointed out Thursday, if Jose Theodore is willing to move his no-trade clause to go to Vancouver. Luongo wants to be with the Panthers again. Florida can use the upgrade in goal, and the Canucks can divest themselves of the $53.3 million left on Luongo’s deal, although for this trade ever to happen certainly player contracts would have to go the other way as well to make it financially viable for the Panthers. "
Take it for what it's worth.

All this talk about trading for Luongo always involves getting Jose to waive his NTC. Wouldn't it be possible for us to put Clemmer in the deal instead? I know he just re-signed with us but I would still rather we tried to do that. Also would mean we only have one goalie signed for multiple years.

I totally buy what you are saying being a Canadian and following the Panthers since day one. There is a diehard community of fans down there supporting the Panthers. I used the word "community" because that's what it feels like to a lot of you (in a good way, a community meaning a sense of self and something tangible). There are no bay city boot lickers taking up half the space like at Leafs or Flames games up here. Sure, the area might need a winning product to support the team fully, but I'm fine knowing that as fans deserve a solid product on ice after a decade of losing. A lot of us have been put through hell and back by sticking with this team... I know others are not as loyal or patience as diehards like us (that goes for any market, big or small).
