Pretty sure Price wants to make an NHL team this season as opposed to playing in the AHL, hence why he picked Minnesota (their blue line is pretty tragic after Suter and Brodin).

Sucks losing the rights to a player but given the ridiculous restrictions on NCAA players and their status as "amateur" athletes being at stake it's safe to say we didn't "spend 4 years developing him" beyond a few visits and the summer development camps.

Subban wishes he could have half his size

Indeed traveling Europe playing hockey. Though maybe retired after last season since he's older and played less and less games each year

WOW. I don't know where else to put this. I didn't want to make a thread because I didn't hear it myself.

Apparently via Team 1040 tonight (Botch?), AV never told Kassian why he was demoted and there wasn't much communication between the two during the season.

Doesn't surprise me. From the Jeff Angus interview with Dave Orton (Zack's off-season trainer), he kept stressing that he feels Torts will give him a fair shake and that he'll know where he stands with Torts, implying that AV didn't do that.

Quote:
Angus: Have you and Zack talked about the coaching change in Vancouver at all?

Orton: He told me, "I'm looking forward to it. You never question where you are at with [a coach like Tortorella].Ē

Angus: From what I have heard, it sounds like Tortorella wants to put Burrows and Kesler back together. There could be a shot for Zack to emerge as the winger for the Sedins. Is that in his thought process at all?

Orton: Thatís a lot of peopleís impression of the situation. And who wouldnít want to play on that line, right? With Tortorellaís mentality, Zack is going to get a fair chance at the very least. And at the pro level that is all you can really hope for.

After that itís up to him to decide what he wants to go. Heís a grown man, a good athlete, and a great hockey player. Which Zack Kassian does he want to put on the ice?

Angus: Hopefully the one from the first few weeks of the 2013 season.

Orton: Yeah, he came out flying. And he knows now that he canít let things rattle him, he understands that it is a job and it isnít personal. Heíll surprise some people this year as long as he gets that fair shake.

AV never seemed to communicate messages to his players directly. He would always speak to the media first about particular issues, sometimes even to criticize his players. It's no surprise he rarely spoke to Kassian.

He seemed like a coach who just let his players figure things out by themselves

I'm pretty sure he was known for his lack of communication with players in Montreal - I think Recchi was the one who said that?

Doesn't really surprise me either, but it does kind of make me even more glad that he's gone now.

Cory Schneider's Highlight Reel Save

Well, first game as a New Jersey Devil, and not only does our old pal CS post a shutout, he also very likely has wrapped up the save of the pre-season award:

Good for him. Should probably be in the main section of the forum, though.

Great stop Cory!

Also, just because I love love loooove pointing out your many (many, many) failings as a poster: Cory did not post a shutout.

He played 40 minutes of shutout hockey and the New Jersey Devils posted a shutout but in order to be credited with a shutout individually a goaltender has to play a complete game.

Don't worry King of the BS, you'll get the hang of this whole hockey thing soon. Great job recognizing that the save was impressive though!

This might be old news to some but I didn't realize that Peter Schaefer went into coaching.

He's an assistant with the Surrey Eagles this season.

Best of luck.

So with no PTO offer is Malhotra basically finished? Or is he maybe just not quite ready to play yet?

I've assumed all along that he was done but the last I heard he still wanted to play.

Mason Raymond signs a 1 year, $1M deal with the Maple Leafs.

So long Mason!
