Long time sharks fan, this is my first post here. I was just wondering who other sharks fans think Wilson and Mclellan will target this off season for assistant coaches or who other sharks fans would want to see behind the bench or who will fit in good in San Jose next season.
Sadly, I'm surprised nobody is talking about this, I haven't seen anything to suggest that Shaw or Woodcroft are being fired, just that one assistant is being added. Ridiculous.

it makes no sense to me for DW to tell the media "the PK was awful, it has to get better"... then bring back the guy who ran the PK... that kind of lack of accountability trickles down to the players, and we saw that on the ice this past year
if Woodcroft was such an amazing video guy and a crappy AC... I don't see what's wrong with just demoting him back down to video guy... if his pride won't accept that, then DW shouldn't hesitate to part ways and wish him luck elsewhere

Welcome to DW's world. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he simply decides to add another coach to "solve certain issues," but neither Shaw or Woodcroft is let go. In fact, that pretty much is the official party line to date. And I too am scared at that prospect.

QFT. I thought it was a mistake promoting Woodcroft to a behind the bench position.

There's really no reason to fire any of them. Shaw isn't responsible for the PK. Woodcroft was. He can go back to the video room where he was successful prior to this promotion. There's nothing wrong with that and based on what is the responsibility of Matt Shaw, he didn't warrant a firing or a demotion.

Well we can debate that of course, but I don't think we've even seen anything to suggest that Woodcroft is being sent back to his old videojob. All that we've been told is that one assistant is being added, that's it.
I haven't been following things that closely this offseason so far: is it confirmed at all that our assistants are/are not returning? Are their contracts up? What phase is the process in? Thanks.

They were the best the first season with Todd, Richards, Yawn and Wood in the video role. They haven't been the same since. Wood needs to return to video. Shaw couldn't make proper adjustments and fill Richards' shoes. He is there because of his prior relationship with Todd.
I know we would all like to see Ricci or Marchment back but there are a few other guys with Sharks ties that I could see as options. I feel like DW is waiting to see what happens with Granato in Pitt. I would also talk with Vinny Damphousse, simply because of his hockey IQ, similar to Adam Oats' role with NJD. Also Mike Grier could be an interesting consideration because he comes from a background of coaches (his father and brother in the NFL) and has that work ethic we all feel the team has been missing.
I think the Devils staff that lead them to the finals is a great staff to mimic. A smart, young coach (Deboer - Todd). A crafty offensive minded coach (Oats - Vinny/Granato). And a classic defensive minded, gritty ex player (Larry Robinson - ?)
Also Ricci has said that he likes his position in the past because of the lack of travel and staying close to his family. I love Marchment but I don't think he has the right tools to improve our PK and inspire solid defensive play.
Thoughts?

my guess is that DW's got a list of AC candidates in mind, but can't talk to them until after July 1... I think he's got at least one AC in mind that will make Woodcroft/Shaw redundant, but if he doesn't land him, then Plan B is to keep Woodcroft+Shaw and just add another AC
either way, I think we'll find out in early July, once other teams' coachess contracts are up and there is a run on free agent coaches
