Would you support trading phil kessel for help down the middle

I'm not for trading our best player but would it be worth it in long run? Would you trade him to a team that is deep down the middle? I don't think couture would be a fair trade (value wise for us) but thats the closest of value for a team down the middle. I think duchene would be a fair deal but I don't think colorado would be willing to relinquish him.

I would be willing to trade kessel for a significant upgrade down the middle because of the lack of a complete game. Yes he did accumulate 82 points without a number 1 centre. Yes he did finish top 6 in scoring. He allowed played on ron wilsons team that lacked defence. He is not good defensively anyway you put it. He is not effective on the forecheck. On the contrary, he is able to put up points without a true number 1. His passing ability and vision and extremely good. He has good and bad parts about his game.

Would you trade Kessel for a 65-70 point centreman around the same age? Would our winger depth be decimated with his departure? Would there be any sense in considering trading our greatest asset for an upgrade in the position we need the most help?

I'm not for one or the other

I wouldn't. I think while still a need, the 1C talk has gotten desperately overrated and out of control.

If this player is a point per game producer, has a rocket of a shot, has unreal play making abilities, and would have chemistry with Lupul/JVR, and an incredible 2 way game then yes.

I was thinking of a package involving Jeff Skinner from Carolina. They seem to be going for it and Kessel on Staal's wing would be dynamite.

Toronto would likely need to be getting more back than just Skinner but its a good basis for a deal.

Skinner + Gleason

For

Kessel

Hell no. Then we'd just have a hole on the wing and would be in the market for a goal-scoring right winger.

Doesn't make sense.

It would have to be one of Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Stamkos, Tavares or Giroux coming back.

Other than those players, it wouldn't make sense to trade Kessel for a centre.

I would trade anyone if it made our team better. There is a lot of Kessel's game that really irritates me. The most is how useless he is at getting the puck out past the defenceman. But I think he is such a dynamic skater and shooter that his offense definitely outweighs his board play.

Now find me a young player who can score and play defence and I will drive Kessel to the airport myself.

John Tavares for Kessel and Gardiner... I'm in and I really, really value Gardiner highly.

Trade Kessel and replace him with Semin. Kessel has no 2 way game and is lazy.

if there was a chance getzlaf or kopitar were available and it took kessel to get them to toronto i would be all over that. it is a lot easier to get a top line winger then it is to get a top line center. a top line center can make an average winger look good (thornton-tootoo), a top line winger can only help an average center so much (kessel-bozak).

id rather take my chances with jvr-getzlaf-lupul then lupul-bozak-kessel

If there's one thing Burke has demonstrated repeatedly, it's that more can most certainly be acquired for less.

Kessel stays.

Just have to wait for that Field of Dreams voice to whisper in Burkie's gigantic Celtic cranium (And I can say that because I have one as well - gigantic Celtic cranium that is...), "If you trade them there, they will send 'him' here..."

All will be well

Thus endeth the thread.

I'd do it if it was for Stamkos or Tavares, but we'd have to keep it in the elite elite ballpark, make a hockey trade type thing...

For the right deal I'm not opposed to it (and I really like Kessel). I have a hard time believing there is a team out there that would be willing to part with a player good enough to make the deal worthwhile for Burke. Then again, if the rumour is true about the names being passed around I guess anything is possible.

No unless we are talking about young star players like Stamkos or Tavares.
Safe to say the Bolts and Isles are not interested in dealing them so my answer would be no.
We should try to find a guy to play WITH Phil.

yes, because this is a stupid idea. Let's trade a top 10 scoring winger and our best player for a centre, who can then make amazing plays to.... oh crap we traded our scoring winger.

Sounds like the Sundin problem all over again, no?

This is dumb, stop trying to trade away Kessel because someone told you he was lazy.

We trade Kessel then we are looking for a 30 goal scoring winger door top line.

Depends on the "help".

If we trade Kessel for a number 1 C, we no longer have the elite scoring winger that'll be there to benefit. Damned if you do...

You'd trade Kessel for an 11 goal guy that had 57 points? Um, ok.

I am glad you are not running the team.
