What if Parise or Suter Sign Here?

What if Burkie pulls something out of left field and pulls either deal off? What kind of celebration would you perform? Take the day off work? Have a celebratory icy beverage? Get so drunk you forget to pick the kids up from school???????

Even though I know it won't happen, just remember that anything can happen!!!!!! Cross your fingers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To hold your breath would be stupid. But the thought of it actually happening would be nice!!!

Not sure this is an option at this point.

What if I rephrase your question to "What if Burke decides to overpay for a good but not elite level UFA with a massive long-term contract"? Would your answer be the same?

Parise is really skilled but we do not need another small player. I was never really hoping Leafs sign him

I know whatcha mean but at the same time, getting the best available talent that chose to come here is something to be happy about.

And what if Burke traded Komisarek and Connolly to Pittsburgh for Crosby, and then he flips Lombardi + a fourth and cash to Washington for Ovechkin, and then he convinces Nick Lidstrom to come out of retirement, reacquires the Schenn brothers for McKegg and Colborne and then immediately flips them to Vancouver for the Sedins and then trades Scrivens and Lashoff to the Kings for Quick. What if?

Probably more like a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 01% chance.

What if Malking gets traded here?

What if Getzlaf signs here next summer?

So many questions, yet so few answers.

I would be in shock and probably wonder what universe I woke up in.

If we did I would assume another major trade was imminent. Both/either are upgrades but neither are targeted pieces.

TBH I don't think either is the be-all-end-all of UFAs.

Given the parameters Suter and Parise have allegedly laid out as strong preferences if not outright requirements, and Burke's consistent (and as recent as yesterday's confirmation on the Fan 590 interview) objection to cap-circumnavigating contracts, it's highly unlikely either will be a Leaf.

I for one wouldn't want Suter here at the kind of price and term Detroit is offering. Parise on the other hand, if the term was 7 years or less ideally, then I'd be interested.

Not counting on it though.

Players like that, for the good of the game, I wish would just stay loyal to the club that's provided them means and opportunity to develop into the players theyve become.

A captain no less.

Jersey fans must be livid.

Would Burke offer a 12 year deal? No, so don't even think about it.

Exactly, how he even ended up as a free agent is mind boggling? How bad is the situation in NJ to allow him to see July 1st?

Not to be a jerk or anything, but if the odds were 10^-49 there would be greater chances that the atoms in Lupul would create a sudden coherence with the atoms in a nearby tree and suddenly spawn a second Lupul.

Which would be great if we could get the second Lupul signed, don't get be wrong, I just have to assume the odds of us landing Parise and Suter are better than 10 to the negative 49.

The chances of this happening are slim to none. In addition, it would suck to have two players under contract for 10 year terms plus. Even elite players like Crosby and Malkin at 10 year contracts are risky. There are too many variables to go wrong with injuries, etc.

Look at Marc Savard at a smaller term and already he could be retiring due to injuries. If these two players sign for five years or less then it would be welcoming, anything more and it becomes risky for the franchise.

You've gotta believe Kovalchuk's gigantic contract has something to do with it.

Burke and Co didnt even make a pitch for Parise. Havnt heard anything regarding Suter, but Burke did state that he isnt interested in adding defense at this time.

I would attempt to walk across a frozen Detroit River today (high of 98F). Yep, that's right - not gonna happen.
