Minny is a hockey town. 'Local talent' means little compared to the players' talents.

Gee. Thanks for posting that. It's definitely better to have this 1-word thread instead of reading the Free Agent thread.

These contracts are the reason there will be another lockout in a couple of months

I'm with you on this. It's ridiculous to see these kinda deals. The only reason I would give 100M for a player it's if that player is a Franchise Player (ex: Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin and Stamkos). Parise and Suter aren't even close of being that kind of players.

Okay, but it's not fair to count the rookie season. Then spent two years developing as a young player. He's now in his prime with seasons of 94, 82, and 69.. the 69 coming after he missed a year for injuries and had a slow start.

I can't see him not putting up 82 points this year, energized and at hoime. This is pretty exciting for Minnesota.

Bout time too since the NW has sucked for a few years and been a cakewalk for the Canucks.
Do you live in Calgary now? If so, what's the feel there? Much optimism for the club, or are people fed up with management?

I had high hopes for Backlund. Things haven't looked good for him of late, though.

Why ? The owners and GMs are offering these kind of deals, why would they call for a lockout ? Maybe some rules about 10+ years deal, but the players aren't to blame here.

Our management just has to do it too, period.

Yeah I got a little exited... I'm waiting for the mod to redirect the thread. I must say I'm really surprised. I never thought it would happen. I'm glad Suter didn't sign with the Red Wings though. It would have been against nature.

The fans and media make this a bad team?

I can bet that the owners of the Florida Panthers would LOVE to have these fans.

They'll be a fun team to watch with Granlund, Coyle, Zucker, Larsson all coming in the next few years.

Love it. Have do much respect for both these guys to play for their hometown (and still get paid).

Maybe one day our own Quebec stars will feel pride in wearing the CH again.

This move wasn't just about going home anyway. Parise was playing for a team with an uncertain future, Suter wanted out of Weber's shadow. There was probably collusion to play together and few teams could afford paying them both like this.

It's time to get over Lecavalier.

We don't have a cheap ownership, our team will pay for anyone.. but why would a couple of kids from Minnesota want to play in Montreal? We got Cole cause he was a Hab fan growing up. We got Gio and Cammy because we overpaid them, Prust because his hot girlfriend told him to come here . We got Kovy and Markov because they are treated like gods here and enjoy the European vibe around town... Players have to want to come here, and not everyone wants to have half their paycheck taxed, media members following every bit of their lives, freezing winters... but the players that do are ****ing crazy and worth having around.

HA! only if the Canadian dollar goes up to $2 US and taxes are cut in half.

You wont see those contracts in Canada.

Wow did anyone see that coming? Since when does Minnesota play in the big-bucks free-agent market?

That's why you trade for a star and ink him before he becomes UFA.

My point is that Parise chose to go to Minny, and he convinced Suter to come with him.

I just keep saying WOW since I heard this news....Awesome for Minny to get both of those guys. Yet, I have no problem not having, as a Habs fan, to see my team giving all that money and that term to both of those guys at the same time.

So pretty impressive, yet pretty bold, maybe too much. And you look at that Wild lineup, and they will need more than what they have now. You hope that some newcomers will do the job.
